That 1979 entry is always a shocker for me. Joe D'Amato always delivers something odd and you have to love the Goblin score. Did I ever tell you that I really like Franca Stoppi? She always plays someone strange in all her films. Two other good ones she’s in are Women's Prison Massacre (1983) and The Other Hell (1981).

reply

i am almost 100% sure we've had a discussion almost identical to this the last time a 'favourites of the 70s' thread popped up, because i am getting the strongest deja vu vibes right now.

i haven't seen either of those movies - i can't see women's prison anywhere, but it looks like there's a copy of the other hell on youtube, so i'll check that out this weekend for sure...

reply

The Other Hell is the weaker of the two but it’s a Bruno Mattei nunsploitation oddity at the very least. Don’t expect any greatness because it’s hard to top Franca Stoppi‘s weirdness in Beyond the Darkness. Put it last on your viewing list. Lol

Nice list... I remember my parents saying they liked "Tess", but think it was too long when it was on TV, but I'll look for it.

reply

Yeah, at 2 hours 51 minutes, Tess might be considered long, but I thought that it was an extremely good film.
In fact, I bought the Criterion Collection on two DVDs, which includes a multitude of extras.
IMO, this was definitely Nastassja Kinski's finest film.

reply

I'll try to do an automatic DVR.. Thanks!
