A Special Day is a special movie.. Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni had the best chemistry. Even when he plays a gay guy!

My favorite of 1970 is "Sunflower", which I think is the best love story in a movie, starring Sophia and Marcello, directed by my favorite ever - De Sica... I highly recommend it.

The only one I haven't heard of is "Orders", which sounds pretty good.

"Autumn Sonata" almost made my 78 (I like both Bergmans, but Ingmar is probably in my Top 5 ever), but I guess I wanted the least known Steve McQueen movie out there, since it was a tie in my head.. Based on the Ibsen play, fine script of course. It wasn't marketed at all, because McQueen had long hair and a long beard.. "Dog Day Afternoon" was another one that came close, but I had to eliminate my 5th favorite movie - One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest in favor of my 3rd favorite movie, "Nashville"..

"A Clockwork Orange" is one of my favorites. Saw it a handful of times between the ages of 17 and 21, but haven't seen it since. I almost put "The Godfather" in at 72, but I think I'm a little burned out on it, since it was my very favorite movie at 17, and saw it SO many times, and I love "Fat City" and hope people would check out one of Huston's best (probably my 2nd favorite American director), who was one of a few directors who was able to adapt and make at least on great movie in the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s.

I have heard of "I.. For Icarus" a few times, but had no idea it centered around the JFK assassination, and Yves Montand is good, so I will try to check this out soon. Thanks again!

I've tried to see "Cria cuervos" a few times, because I loved Saura's first (I think) movie - "La Caza" (The Hunt).. Have you seen it?

reply

I haven't seen The Hunt. I've been trying to find a good version online with subtitles for a while now.

reply

You are in luck. Check your PMs.

Hell of a movie! If anyone knows similar ones, please recommend them.

reply

1976 was such a great year. "Taxi Driver" would have been my #2, but I also love "Next Stop, Greenwich Village", "Rocky", and a few more.

reply

Oh yeah, the 70’s’ in general, is a tough decade to pick favorites because so many wonderful films get left off. 1972 was the worst for me.

reply

Aguirre had interesting atmosphere, but I don't like it as much as many others do... I think Herzog's best is "Stroszek"

reply

Yes, I would say Stroszek is the better of the two no doubt. Aguirre is somehow one of those I never get tired of watching though.
