Odd, Strange, Weird Movies With Famous Actors

Elizabeth Taylor was in a handful of them in the late 60s and early 70s..

Check out "Secret Ceremony" which also has Robert Mitchum. It's strange, and might be confusing at first, but stick with it - it's pretty good. I wonder if it gets better (or worse) with a second viewing.

For me, Sean Connery in "Zardoz" tops this list.

Hilarious movie! Hownos and some other regs dislike it but c’mon!! James Bond in a mankini and stripper boots is just too damn weird and funny😄

And the gigantic floating head? The whole movie was a real trip

reply

I love that film!

A very odd film imho.

Burnt Offerings (76) was a fun haunted house movie starring Oliver Reed, Karen Black, Burgess Meredith and Bette Davis

One of my girls is really into art and she did a painting for me of Karen Black in Burnt Offerings. Absolutely great film!

Jennifer Lawrence in "Mother!" (2017). I get that it's supposed to be allegorical, but it is bizarre.

Idk, maybe A Scanner Darkly with Keanu Reeves. It's a weird hybrid animation-styled live-action indie film. I didn't even understand what happened in the story because the effect looked terrible and made everything unclear.

"The Brave" (1997) with Johnny Depp it's a weird arty film, very stark and depressing. I get a kick out of thinking about how many young women watched it because of him only to be traumatized by it all. That is of course if they stuck with it as it is hard going.

"Dogville" (2003) with Nicole Kidman. It's more like watching a play and also very stark and depressing.

reply

I really thought I'd hate Dogville but it was pretty damn good!

The Backwoods - Gary Oldman

...Did someone say "weird movies"?

A few I can recall off the top of my head:

Figures in a Landscape (1970), with Malcom McDowell - probably the weirdest action film I've ever seen.

Crimes of Passion (1984), with Kathleen Turner - a very Ken Russel sex thriller.

The Trial (1993), with Kyle MacLachlan and Anthony Hopkins - I mean, it's Kafka, so it's basically cheating. But seriously, this is an amazing adaptation.

Slipstream (2007), with Anthony Hopkins - incredibly weird all the way through.

Only Lovers Left Alive (2013), with Tilda Swinton - Jim Jarmusch does vampires.

I love Only Lovers Left Alive. I think it’s one of Jim Jarmusch’s best films. The cast is amazing and it’s definitely a strange movie.

reply

I'm guessing that's not based off the book

Only Lovers Left Alive was great and I love Tilda!
