Dang, I used to get Kentucky Fried Chicken decades ago ...

The other day I pulled into a KFC because I had not had it in so long and thought to try it ... and my god, it is incredibly expensive. Something like over $40 for a bucket of chicken? How do they stay in business? That must be great chicken. I got indignant and just drove on through and cooked my own. And even expensive Whole Foods sells whole rotisserie chickens for under $10.

Does anyone go to KFC anymore, and what is anything priced reasonably, and what is the best thing to get?

reply

I usually just go to the Publix deli.

I get the $5 dinner there once in a while. There isn't one near me, so I usually have to be in another part of town for some reason. It's not bad. I really like the mashed potatoes.

reply

The refined carbs in those mashed potatoes hit hard on your pancreas.

reply

Yeah, I don't eat it often. Though to be honest its not for health reasons.

Totally depends on the KFC you go to. Some are very good.

I did a big chicken sandwich taste test over the span of a month.

Popeyes: 9.5/10
KFC: 9/10
McDonalds regular cheap McChicken (not the bigger specialty one): 8.5/10 (the specialty one gets: 4/10)
Chic Fil-a, Sonic, and Carls Jr were all around the middle 7s
Wendy's: 5/10
Jack in the Box: 3/10
Burger King: 3/10

The best ever was technically a bacon sandwich. KFC's long-gone "Double Down" sandwich from around 5 years ago was a bacon sandwich with two fried chicken patties instead of bread. It was outstanding. 10/10 It never came back.

So I recommend KFC's chicken sandwich and their coleslaw. I get the fries too but nothing to rave about. If I want actual chicken on the bone then I get Pope Yes.

There used to be a KFC in my small town. It closed about a year ago.

The place was spotlessly clean. The chicken was great and the service was tops.

The owners daughter was supposed to take over but she decided not to.

The owners retired. It's sad that they couldn't sell it and somebody else take over.

Last I heard the building is sold and is going to be a pot shop. Weed is legal here in Michigan.

I still get it sometimes. I think it's good with all those herbs and spices.

I got a chicken pot pie once. Exactly ONE chunk of chicken in it. The rest was giant uncooked carrots, potatoes and goo.

I used to live close to a KFC and would go there just to buy the potato wedges, cole slaw, and the apple pies.

The last time I went, they didn't sell the potato wedges as a side. If I wanted the wedges I had to buy a small combo meal - 2 piece chicken, 1 side, 1 drink. Guess who didn't get a sale?

KFC used to deep-fry their apple pies when most other places had stopped doing that. I'm thinking I might have to hit up a KFC this week for some investigatin'... I think Wienershnitzel was doing it as well...

Yeah, I remember those cottage fries/potato wedges. Those were good. I figured that KFC chicken was about the best fast food out there ... just the chicken.

Chicken cost $10 now uncut or cooked.
