Country songs that don't suck.
A lot of people, including me, don't really like country music. There's a few songs I do really like.

Pretty much any mainstream country song from the 1970s or earlier "doesn't suck." There were a lot of good songs in the '80s too, but that's when it started to turn bad overall in my opinion. The '90s had even fewer good songs, and there are very, very few from the 21st century that I like.
shareI can agree with everything you have said here other than the 80’s. I think the 80’s were full of absolutely great country music. I work with some guys who listen to current “country” music off the radio and I try visit their work area for as short of time as possible. I don’t know how they can call today’s county music “country.” It resembles rap more than anything else.
shareIn my opinion, most of the good songs from the '80s were from people who first made it big in the '70s or earlier, e.g., Hank Williams, Jr., George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and so on.
Of the singers who first made it big in the '80s, the only ones I thought had a standout voice were Randy Travis and Dwight Yoakam. Travis had some great songs in the '80s, such as 1982; Diggin' Up Bones; Too Gone Too Long; Is It Still Over? and even after the '80s, such as Better Class of Losers and The Hole. There weren't many great songs from Yoakam though, despite his great voice. Guitars, Cadillacs; I Sang Dixie; and Streets of Bakersfield (duet with Buck Owens) are the only ones I really like.
So funny because The Devil Went Down To Georgia is the only country song that doesn’t make me want to stuff burning q-tips in my ears when hearing it. I always thought that your brain and mine were similar based on your sense of humor and such.
