Country songs that don't suck.

A lot of people, including me, don't really like country music. There's a few songs I do really like.

Devil Went Down to Georgia - Charlie Daniels
The Gambler - Kenny Rogers

i believe in you - don williams

reply

Those are two great ones right there. The Legend of the Wooly Swamp is another good one by Charlie Daniels.

Anything and everything that Dolly Parton has recorded, ever!

I don’t share the hate for country music though. My parents were big country music fans so I grew up with the classics; Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette and of course, Dolly. I still love them all to this day.

reply

I’m no country fan either but your list is full of classic oldies…I have great respect for them

Patsy’s voice could break a heart with one snap!
Willie…I doubt anyone would argue that he’s on the Mount Rushmore of country music
Kenny…perfect voice for the genre, he sounded like a cowboy

I love Patsy Cline, but the first song I listened to was Mama. I hate the Grateful Dead I was hoping you could change my mind, no luck.

Here are two tunes just for you

reply

That first one sounds like the sex pistols, violent femmes not sure...Anyway its guitar/instrument driven music. I prefer lyric, voice driven music.

reply

The second song is far better, heavy metal, instrument driven again. What do you have against a good voice and lyrics:)

reply

I don’t generally listen to country music but I will listen to anything by Johnny Cash.

reply

Cash is possibly tops of old country!

reply

Probably cause Cash didn’t only make country music.
