Watching a YouTube video about defunding the BBC.

Probably going to switch back to Workaholics on Amazon Prime soon though.

reply

I'm watching A Royal Queens Christmas, the new Hallmark Christmas movie on the W network.

reply

So far this Queens of the Universe is really amazing. The first 6 singers were really, really good.

reply

I'm watching that in between the commercial breaks of the Leafs/Blackhawks game.

reply

Yeah right:)

reply

Can't miss my Leafs.

reply

Put the beer down, and watch something different for a change:)

reply

I don't drink beer.

reply

you took a break from the christmas moives?

reply

I sure did. They don't play tomorrow though.

reply

do you watch the grey cup?

reply

No, I like good sports.

reply

raised by wolves (2014) - a found footage film that i watched just 6 months ago, but that i swear i cannot remember a single thing about.

but my letterboxd review tells me that i really enjoyed it, and it has a very solid (for a ff horror film) 3.1 rating on letterboxd, so i'm optimistic.

reply

Where are you watching it?

reply

it's on tubitv, but in the us only. my re-watch confirmed that i think it's pretty good. nothing you won't have seen before, but it moves along decently, has a few good moments.

reply

Thanks. I will check it out. I love FF movies

reply

me too!

i actually just 'cloned' a found footage film list on letterboxd and have been using it to find new ones to watch.

https://letterboxd.com/damosuzuki/list/found-footage/

if you filter it by 'service' (ie amazon, tubi, whatever) you can find out which films are available to stream.

though i'm not sure you can filter it like that if you're not a pro or patron-level letterboxd user. but if you can do that, it's very useful.

reply

I see Amber Alert on there. That movie frustrated me sooooooo much.

reply

i like a challenge! but it's not available for streaming, unfortunately. at least as far as i can see...

reply

I watched it on Netflix years ago. It's an okay premise but not executed well.

The Unforgivable (2021)

reply

Was it any good?

reply

i thought it was contrived.

reply

Thanks, I may watch it, Bullock is a real
cutie

reply

The newest episode of The Expanse

reply

The Great Silence (1968)

reply

Now I'm watching the 108th Grey Cup. Go cats go!

reply

BILLS-BUCS.

reply

i just finished watching 'the night house' - re-watch after catching it in the theatres earlier this year.

i'm generally easy to please and generous in my ratings. everyone's mileage may vary as the kids like to say.

but i swear i think this is so well done.

if it was just a little scarier and had a slightly more effective ending, i'd call it a new horror classic.

instead i think it's just really good.

reply

I bought The Night House a while back on digital. Very good film, 8/10 from me.

reply

👍

4/5 from me.

reply

Are you planning on going to see any new movies this week? I'm off the next two days and I'm going see the new West Side Story tomorrow afternoon.

reply

i'm hoping to finally catch 'c'mon, c'mon' tomorrow or tuesday. i was planning on going friday, but i got caught up with some issues at work & couldn't make it.

& i'm catching the new spider-man movie on friday afternoon.

king richard is still playing at the theatre down the street, so i might make it out to that some evening this week...but we'll see. i might let that one wait until it pops up on streaming.

one of the movie writers i really like (john podhoretz) gave west side story a rave review, and that's almost tipped me over into going to see it. we'll see...i wish it wasn't so long! it's 2.5 hours long for heaven's sake!

but let me know what you think. if you dig it, that will probably give me the final nudge i need.

reply

I will likely check out C'mon, c'mon when it comes to streaming or demand. It isn't playing near me. I'll be sure to let you (and everyone else) know my thoughts on West Side Story. I'm going to see the new Spiderman next week on Monday. I might go see the new Matrix on Christmas or boxing day. What do you think is going to win best picture at the Oscars? Any predictions? I'm thinking The Power of the Dog, although I'm not sure.

reply

i've heard power of the dog is the front-runner. i was a bit luke-warm on it myself, but i can see how it's a film that will win awards.

i always feel like i'm more interested in seeing films and performances that i really enjoyed get nominations. for eg, i'm a big, big fan of pig, and i'm really hoping that cage gets a best actor nom for that.

reply

I still haven't seen Pig yet. I probably should watch it soon.

reply

another long-shot that would be fun to see, but is incredibly unlikely probably, would be ben affleck for the last duel.

reply

Yes, I really liked Affleck's performance in The Last Duel. I would nominate him, but I doubt he will get an Oscar nod, maybe a golden globe or critics choice nomination. The Golden Globes and Critics Choice awards both announce their nominees tomorrow morning.

reply

Golden Globes and Critics Choice nominations were announced today. The Last Duel was shut out completely of both.

reply

i can look this up later, but i already have a sinking feeling that there were no nominations for cage in pig.

you can dash my hopes by confirming that now, or i can wait and find out later today.

reply

I can confirm that Cage DID get nominated for a Critics Choice award for Pig!

reply

alright. there is occasionally a bit of justice in the world.

now...let's get him an oscar nom, or i'll start a riot...

reply

I am currently predicting Will Smith, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andrew Garfield, Denzel Washington, and Peter Dinklage to get nominated for best actor, although it is certainly possible that Cage gets nominated instead of one of those guys.

reply

Cumberbatch deserves an award

What a character he played...I wanted to hate him but wound up pitying him

Great performance!

reply

just got home from c'mon, c'mon. great. terrific. highly, highly recommended. a shame it's not showing near you. hopefully it pops up on streaming shortly. i think you'll really like it.

reply

Yeah, I'm sure it will pop up somewhere in the near future. I just got home from West Side story.
My review:

West Side Story is a triumph, a remake that is even better than the original (which was itself pretty darn great). Masterfully directed by the great Steven Spielberg, this is an entertaining and well crafted musical.
The song and dance numbers are fantastic and I loved the costumes and sets. The ensemble is mostly terrific. Rachel Zegler gives the best performance and really shines. Mike Faist is another standout who brings a lot of dynamic energy to Riff. Rita Moreno is wonderful and makes the most of her limited screentime. Ariana DeBose has some really strong and effective moments late in the film that sell me on her performance. The weakest link for me is Ansel Elgort, who I feel was miscast. He has a pretty singing voice but his acting is just alright and he isn't always convincing in the role. Even with his mediocre performance, West Side Story is still one of the best films of the year. 9/10

reply

shoot. now i have to go see a 2 1/2 hour musical! i was kinda pulling for you to hate it, even though i knew you were probably going to love it...

reply

We’re Sunday and you already planned next Friday!? You’re good!

reply

friday is opening day, so i bought my tickets in advance so i could catch it with all the sweaty fan-boys.

i like seeing the mcu films on opening day. there's a really fun, exciting charge that i get out being in that kind of audience that i get almost no where else these days.

reply

That’s cool, you’re cool.

reply

So, same rating, right? Is my math good?

reply

absolutely the same.
