Does anyone else have tomorrow off, Veterans Day?
Teachers are off, who else?
shareIt is not a holiday here in Sweden.
It is actually a pretty alien concept to us Swedes these days to celebrate veterans.
It puts a bad taste in my mouth too. It used to be called Armistice Day and its purpose was to commemorate the end of the vicious imperialist First World War. But now as Veterans Day instead it's used to glorify the war machine by sanctifying those who participate in it, so the killing can go on and on and on.
shareTo what end? Are "they" secretly priests of Khorne the Blood God?
How much you pay for that college degree?
I wouldn't say that it puts a bad taste in my mouth.
But it sure makes it clear that different countries will have different mindsets about certain things.
Just a regular workday for me ( us ) where I work. We can have holidays off...as long as they fall on your regular days off.
Public schools are open in the counties near me.
The public libraries and local government offices are closed. Pay parking meters and parking garages are free on Veteran's Day.
World War I was an insanely fought war. The British and French would send thousands of soldiers out of the trenches, where they would be mowed down by machine guns.
My wife teaches 2nd grade and they weren’t off today.
