shareAhh. I have a question and try not to take offense. I have really hated every dentist I've had in the last 15 years. Again not you, but they all seem so egotistical. I've had this one lately for 5 years and I can't take his attitude any more. You could be the exception to my rule, but I've just had bad luck.
shareSorry to hear that. Yeah, there are sadly many shitty ones out there that have poor bedside manners. Not all dentists are the same. I agree alot of them have pompous egos and arrogant. I think it's unresolved insecurities on their part.
My advice is pick one that has a good reputation from friends/family.
I don't know how old you are or what generation you grew up, but the older patients I've had who developed a dentist phobia seem to got it during childhood. It seems going to the dentist was harsh back in the days then it is now. Alot has changed (I.e. sedation, technology, etc).
You can always request oral sedation pills if you're anxious (I.e. my personal fav is Halcion). 💊
The dentists from back in the day were sadistic. My mother told me she had to get a root canal when she was about 25 years old. The dentist was laughing that she was in pain. He kept telling her to stop acting like a baby.
shareI keep hearing stories like that from my fearful, adult patients. A bad dental experience when you're a child really messes you up for life.
Thankfully, laughing gas and halcion seems to do the trick in majority of cases. I sometimes refer out for IV sedation or general for more severe cases.
When I had my bottom wisdom teeth removed, they gassed me. WOW, it was the most amazing trip ever. I literally experienced time out of order like in the movie Arrival (2016).
shareIt's very difficult to find a good one. I've had some who were running scams and ended up in legal trouble. My present one is great. He was recommended.
shareYep. A good dentist is hard to find. It all depends on your personality too. Some dentists may be a "great fit" for some people but do worse with others.
