Have you even gotten into a band because you heard their song from a movie?

For me it was The Wanton Bishops. I heard one of their songs in the movie "Horns" (2013) -- don't watch it, it's bad, and that's when I got into the band.

reply

No, the band would not let me join their group.

reply

Bastards. They don't know talent when they see it.

reply

definitely, though i'm at a bit of a loss to give a lot of examples...

but i know i got into youth lagoon when i heard them on...jeez, i'm pretty sure it was short term twelve. that was definitely an instance where i immediately needed to know who that band was.

reply

Very soothing track. And yes, it was Short Term 12.

I had trouble coming up with example as well and I know I've gotten into many bands from movies.

reply

thanks for confirming - i was sure it was st12, but i know better than to trust my memory on anything at this point, so i went to imdb & a few other places to try to confirm, and i couldn't it listed anywhere.

reply

actually, because i'm a bit ocd, i just went to prime and streamed the credits of short term 12, & montana isn't listed.

so now i'm left with wondering where i heard it.

i just checked his imdb credits, and the only thing youth lagoon's listed in that i've seen is 'kings of summer,' and that used a different track.

so maybe i completely invented hearing that song in a movie.

i'm now questioning every memory i have.

reply

Weird because it shows up on a Google search without typing in the name of the song. Maybe it was only in the trailer.

reply

ah, that must have been it. i just watched the trailer, and montana is used in the last 40 seconds of it.

funny, cuz i had this very distinct memory of montana playing during the closing scenes, but it's definitely not there. or at least it's not there on the stream that's on amazon, and i doubt it's been revised.

reply

No but I did start listening to Run The Jewels because I heard a song on Silicon Valley.

reply

Yes, I got into The National when I heard their song, 'Think You Can Wait' towards the end of the film, Win Win (2011)

reply

I heard they're a pretty dark band.

reply

Yes. Also hearing a song play in a shop. Even after hearing a good song in a tv commercial.

reply

I watched Yesterday (2019) and it got me into this band from Liverpool called The Beatles, I had never heard their music before.

Somewhere, someplace on the internet this post is real.

reply

What a hipster. You just like them because they're old.

reply

I'm so hip, that all the bands I go to see are older than my grandpa!

reply

Nothing more hip than an artificial hip!

reply

Isn't that the band who made that song Dr. Pepper and the sexually explicit Cum Together?

reply

Dr. Pepper's Lonely Tarts Club Band, I just bought the albnum, is it any good?

reply

Haven't opened it yet. I'll do it when I'm 64.

reply

I'm fixing a hole right now, but it's getting better, once I'm done I'll take a listen.

reply

Weren't they a Wings tribute band?

reply

Wings - The band The Beatles could have been!

reply

Alan Partridge was right.

Wings were an ELO tribute band.

reply

reply
