What is the point of having prop guns if they can kill people?
You may as well use real guns.
shareOr more to the point why can prop guns take rounds at all? I’m thinking this incident might change that.
shareI bet this incident will have ramifications throughout the filming industry in regards to prop guns and safety. Although, a similar incident like this happened back in the 90s with Bruce Lee's son who was also killed by a prop.
shareIt did and there have been other fatalities in film making. The 90's might not be so long ago but it was still very different to now though. I don't think people or the authorities etc are going to be so accepting anymore.
shareAnd in the 90s prop guns were actually needed for effects. But today CGI is easier, cheaper and safer I don't think anyone that care about their crews' safety would use prop guns instead of CGI. It's just ego now.
shareThere is always going to be problems when people don't pay attention to details.
shareIt was a real gun.
shareit was a real gun.
shareit was a real gun
sharePeople who know more about these things than I do have said:
They use real guns loaded with blanks for most shots where the gun has to be seen firing, because real guns loaded with blanks are far, FAR, cheaper than using CGI. The CGI not only has to include the smoke and sparks of the firing gun but the recoil, and considering how many guns are fired in an action movie, the expense adds up.
