Are you cool with it? Or are you squeamish & unable to handle those kinda scenes in films/shows?
Personally, I'm cool with decapitations & most torture scenes. With the exception of cannibalism, removing finger nails during torture & sticking nails or sharp sticks up one's fingers. Or anything to do with eyes. Those make me squirm. Probably a few others I'm forgetting.
I'm also cool with a couple of slasher films but it's the "torture porn'' genre that I'm NOT into. Like the Saw movies (Except the first one) & the hostel movies. I don't hate 'em, they're just not my thing.
But I don't think movies should be an endurance test. The problem with movies labeled 'torture porn' isn't so much that they contain grizzly material - so what? - but that they revel in it to such a degree and to the detriment of all other narrative elements, that it becomes, frankly, dull.

This, this right here!
That's why I couldn't get into the later Saw movies. Just became about one upping each film with more torture. No coherence or decent script. Just gore

This is it exactly for me, too. Gore, no problem (I saw some very unpleasant injuries in the forces). But without a good (or at least, entertaining) story it quickly gets boring. Having said that, my favourite horror films are creepy ghost stories anyway, which don't tend to include a lot of blood 'n' guts.

Same, I think. Would generally prefer an atmospheric or psychological horror to a gore-fest. But gore is a lot of fun when it's done right - which, of course, has to involve a decent story and characters.

I mentioned this in another comment but the only time I actually love gore is in revenge flicks. I love seeing characters get their comeuppance.
And sometimes, it's so satisfying to watch when they die "a horrible death". Most of the revenge films I've seen get creative with their kills. Which I love
Not much. I hated the Saw and Hostel films for that exact reason, torture scenes really turn my stomach and I just don’t find those sorts of movies entertaining.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good thriller or horror film, but when it’s base stuff like watching a person get their body parts removed slowly… I don’t know, I just can’t get into it.
I don't mind the odd Slasher film here & there with their decapitations & stuff but anything that falls in the "Torture porn" category is just not my cup of tea.
Agreed. The only movie that might be considered “torture porn” that I rate is Wolf Creek, but that’s because it’s also a brilliantly acted, exhilarating thriller film. I just closed my eyes through the gross stuff lol
I vaguely remember that film. I haven't seen that film since I was a teen. I was more squeamish back then, so if I enjoyed it then, (which I did btw), it's probably good.
I don't mind either if it's in reasonable amounts, and relevant to the story (or whatever else it is the film/show is trying to do); otherwise, as in the whole torture porn genre, I seriously don't get the appeal.
I agree on the Saw & Hostel movies. I've seen only the first of each franchise.
This one https://moviechat.org/tt1763264/No-One-Lives I've watched several times now. It's a good revenge flick (which I always love) coupled with some imaginative, creative gore; just good, escapist movie entertainment.
I literally watched that last week. Never even heard of it before last week. Solid revenge movie. Enjoyed it more than I thought.
I usually don't mind gore in revenge flicks. It's usually creative. And it's awesome watching the characters "get what's coming to them". I love a good, creative kill.
I like most of the gory or scary horror stuff but I do agree, Saw1 and Hostel1 were really all you needed to watch of those franchises
70s and 80s slashers are my faves and the Italian cannibal films were usually very good and nasty
I hope this isn't off-topic but Irreversible was way more disturbing than any of that fake horror stuff as it was a dreadful story that could come from a newspaper item, unlike an immortal slasher in a cool mask
The strange thing is it's a really professionally directed and acted movie told in reverse order with visual and audio effects thrown in to intentionally cause a very off-kilter, disturbed feeling in the viewer...Then there was the assault scene, it was exceedingly horrible
Overall Noe went out of his way to make a perfectly horrifying revenge pic and it was a depressing bullseye
I will likely never watch it again though, it's very heavy

The other commenter said the same.
Man, I'm really glad I haven't seen it. I have a really good memory, not photographic, I just rarely forget 'horrific incidents'. In fiction or in reality. So, It would've like stayed with me for a lifetime.
