ConfessionOk sorry but I have readdress this Manic-Pixie-Dreamgirl thing or Why Can't I Get Just One Kiss?

Ok So I just learned, a few months ago, about this Manic Pixie Dream Girl stereotype that they are calling a "trope".

Yep I know, I'm late to the party, had to work till 10pm and shower.

Why did that director or whoever he was HAVE TO RUIN THAT BY TURNING IT INTO A "TROPE"?!!!!

What if I simply happen to LIKE manic pixie dream girls? And I mean like them a lot. No I love them ok. This is a confession.

In college we used to call them alternateens and that was ok because we were only 20-21. BUT I always had a thing for that cute, quirky, townie girl who had to put some red dye in her hair and pulled her gum, wearing "urban" clothing, while giving me the eye knowing I could never have her because I was too old for her or at least so I thought.

AND WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT?!!!
Now it is a "cliche'"?? How is that ever a "trope"??

Why can't I just like a woman (to use the minimialist's chick's mantra) who sparks joy?!

I've ALWAYS LOVED Manic pixie dream girls, and no I was not brainwashed into it.

A quick story for you. Once I was shopping at Whole Foods, you know for some BS before it became Whole Paycheck and owned by Amazon and just couldn't take my eyes off the girl working behind the bakery. She was thin, cute, wore army boots and had red and green hair. She saw me staring at her and I said, "I like your hair." She laughed and said thanks and blushed and always was polite and said hi after that. I just couldn't take my eyes off her, and her personality.

Remain the way you are. Don't change just because some movie director-producer stereotyped you. If you want to live life, work hard and play hard then do it. You're free and we like you that way and I've never worn skinny jeans. Hope you're ok with that. I usually wear a suit after work when I see you. Reducing film characters to an archetype like "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" is just the critic's cynical attempt at being clever. I wouldn't let it bother you.

They've been around a long time. The problem is independent films started fetishizing them, and now you have a lot of young women trying to be these kinds of girls when they're not made of the right stuff, and the whole scene is a mess.

Yeah. I learned about this thing when I read and article calling Winona Ryder a "Proto manic pixie dream girl" Now they are calling Annie Hall in the Woody Allen movie one.
It's pretty much garbage.
