Horror actor battle: Karloff vs. Lugosi vs. Chaney vs. Price

Who is the king of black and white horror?

Boris Karloff
Bela Lugosi
Lon Chaney
Vincent Price

I'm leaning more towards Karloff.

reply

I can't say who the king would be, but I've seen more Price movies than the others.

reply

Me too.

reply

all uniquely wonderful, in their own way. VP is my STL homeboy.

you have give lon chaney the nod, though, for pioneering work in the genre. most of his work was silent, though, so he isn't nearly as well known as the others.

reply

I thought he was British for so many years.

reply

Karloff, and it's not close.

reply

Tough, love them all but I'd say Karloff. Price is my favourite overall though.

reply

I probably like Vincent Price the best of these choices but Bela Lugosi would probably go down as the awl thyme best.

reply

It's between Price and Karloff, both of whom are vastly underrated as actors because they made so many crap moves.

I don't think I could choose between them, but if you held a gun to my head I'd pick Karloff on the strength of the excellent "The Body Snatcher". He plays a grave robber, and having a good solid script for once inspired him to new heights of charm, humor, evil, sinisterness, etc. He's just fabulous, and it's a damn good mid-century movie.

I don't know that Price ever got a role that good, which is Hollywood's fault and not his. But do check out "The Body Snatcher".

reply

Price could have been my choice, but I've never seen him without a mustache.

reply

THE ONE...THE ONLY...🦇BELA LUGOSI.

reply

4 chaney
3 price
2 lugosi
1 karloff

reply

Pretty much my ranking as well.
