I don't think so
The entire Star Wars saga is wildly entertaining to me (Solo was a let down though)
Some movies are just good escapist fun, age has nothing to do with it imo
The older I get, the more I see of reality, the more I like escapist movies!
I'm an intelligent, professional, older adult.. .and I fucking LOVE Star Wars and the Marvel franchise. Total fun escapism!
Most action films require the mind of a 10 yo. It’s like going to Disneyland as an adult. You check your dignity at the door, stick on a pair of mouse ears, and let the day unfold.
shareI never saw them until I was 14 or something. I'm not a fangirl or anything, but I find the original trilogy extremely entertaining.
sharePerhaps:
Although I first saw Star Wars when I was about 8 (Empire Strikes back) and I wasn’t impressed by it.
I was younger than 10 when they first came out, so I can say that a mind younger than 10 can enjoy them. I know a lot of people who loved them when they came out. I'm just wondering what you were wanting to be impressed by and in what year were you 16? At the time, the special effects were pretty amazing.
The story of Star Wars has always been simple. It's a good vs bad, space western fairy tale. It's supposed to be fun. If you didn't have fun watching them, that's fine and there is nothing wrong with that. If people did have fun watching them, that's just fine too.
I didn't see the Star Wars films at the cinema when they came out and only watched them later on television. I found them worth watching but I too didn't see what all the fuss was about. The prequels seemed to be pitched at ten year olds and again they were worth watching but less so than the original three.
The sequels however were made for an older audience and with Rey and Kylo Ren we had the first really complex grown up characters. Rey who had no idea who she was or what she was. We watched her struggle with her emotions ( her issues with abandonment and feeling lost for example ) as she went along.
Kylo Ren was arguably an even more complex character than Rey. Ruthless, driven and wildly ambitious but at the same time conflicted and self doubting. Looking for an Empress in Rey but also a wife and a companion. The sequels even with their faults ( and all of the Star Wars films have their faults ) are the best Star Wars films.
I was always much more of an original Star Trek fan than a Star Wars fan, but it was a big event. The only thing I remember that was comparable was Jaws two years earlier. I’m not just talking about the movie itself but on the impact on the culture.
shareNo. Most Star Wars fans I have encountered are much older than ten.
