How do you feel about relaxed employee "uniform" standards?

Uniform doesn't just mean clothes, it means what type of hairstyle you can have, what jewelry you display, what tattoos are visible, and other forms of "personal expression".

Personally, I'm against this trend towards relaxed standards.

Disney just released its new "5th key" that is a "key of inclusion" (more left wing thinking) and they're relaxing uniform standards including allowing tattoos on display, piercings, and trans expression.

Personally when someone serves me in a service role, I want it to be about me, the customer, not the employee and their need for self expression or to tell the world their sexuality.

As long as they are doing well as your server, why would you care what tattoos and piercings they have?

He sounds like a Debbie downer. I see someone with tattoos and I usually compliment them. But I'm indifferent to how someone looks..just keep my drinks coming and my table tidy and I'm happy.

Hand and neck tattoos are quite repulsive.

I agree , but things have changed
used to be face , neck or hand tattoos would indicate person of , er , possibly criminal, violent , or mixes in those circles , untrustworthery etc

now it means
"Bloody stupid kid from instagram generation who has griffittid all over his body in an attempt to emulate his bloody stupid Z list celeb heroes"
harmless
still trashy

I would like to know what possesses a person to spend big money marring their body. I've asked this question in the past but have never received an answer.

I can't remember where I read this analogy, but it hits the nail right on the head: Your body is a brand-new expensive sports car. Getting a tattoo is taking the keys and scratching the paint job.

I believe it. Wait a few decades. These people will have sagging skin and the ink will be fading. That "masterpiece" they got when they were in their 20s is going to look pretty pathetic.

This is another facet of the growing trend towards lack of pride in ones grooming and apparel. The way some people dress in public is disgusting and sometimes nauseating. They have no shame. Workplaces normally expect some sense of decorum, but from your post it sounds like standards are dropping. Especially if Disney World is doing it; they used to have fairly stringent standards regarding the appearances of their employees.

I'm not suggesting we should don formal wear when we go to a fast-food restaurant. I'm all for dressing casually and comfortably. But at least have some self-respect and remember that others have to look at you while they are eating.

I agree. Standards don't really exist these days like they used to.

In Australia, the only ones I see taking a lot of pride in their appearance is Asians. They generally look groomed and wear nice clothing.

The whites wear flipflops everywhere and sometimes enter shopping centers/fastfood joints barefeet.

There's a famous picture of a fat woman in a KFC onesey at KFC and most of the Americans were shocked that she's not wearing shoes. It was in Australia, that's not shocking.

"Flip-flops" are hideous. They were intended for wear at a pool or on the beach, not in restaurants, stores, etc. Any podiatrist will tell you they are bad for your feet.

I find it funny when staff manuals tell us to shower, wear deodorant, shave and brush our teeth.

But yeah, very important.

I was chatting to a girl at a store called 'zing' that sells comic/cartoon/movie/gaming memorabilia and by chance she used to work at Disneyworld and said that the new 'inclusivity' rule was great because the girls were forced to wear long pants in the heat of Florida whereas the men could wear shorts. She also didn't like having to hide her tattoos under long socks.
