Sex scenes in movies, yay or nay?

I honestly think Hollywood needs to evolve beyond showing an actresses breasts or erotic imagery to sell a movie. To me, sex scenes always seem unnatural, like we're peering in on something we shouldn't be, I've never honestly seen one that the movie wouldn't be better without.

In some movies yes

Full circle.

Boomers rebels against Greatest generation and Silent generation by showing sex scenes in movies starting 1966- sexual revolution (Barbarella 1968)

Millennials and Gen z rebels against Boomers by saying sex scenes are unnecessary and seem unnatural.

My Generation X, remembers when internet porn wasn't available on tap, and sex scenes were sometimes put in just to wet our sexual appetite, and cynically think that if internet porn never existed or was banned...sex scenes would be popular once more.

sex in movies is something i'd like to see more of.

outside of indie horror, sex and nudity seems to have more or less disappeared. a casualty of the decline of movie-going as an adult passtime, i suppose.

movie-going used to be one of the primary pass-times of american adult, and that's something that's mostly waned, & they now mainly (not solely, but in large part) exist as a means of luring teens to theatres. the mid-budget adult oriented drama/comedy with a bit of nudity & raunch is mainly a thing of the past, it seems to me, & i'd be all for finding a way for it to come back.

Guess you don’t watch any limited cable series because full nudity and extended sex scenes are an absolute staple for many popular shows on HBO, Showtime, Netflix… Game of Thrones, Euphoria, Insecure, The White Lotus, The Affair, Halston. Go have a looksee, it’s all there.

Your point of view on the portrayal of sex scenes and erotic imagery in Hollywood movies is shared by many people. Some like harder movies, such as https://tonicporn.com/videos/4984/tonicporn-emily-white-deep-balls-anal-5-on-1-pissing/ Deep Balls Anal and maybe something a little harder, tastes vary. It is important to realize that the use of sex scenes in movies has been a subject of debate for a long time, and opinions on this issue can vary widely.

I always fast forward through them.

If I were rich enough to make a movie and have full control over the production, there would definitely be female nudity, but no sex scenes, not male-female ones anyway; maybe female-female ones. And the nudity would be more impressive than any I've ever seen in a mainstream movie because I would hire women like Lidiya Krasnoruzheva, Mandy Dee, Tessa Fowler, Stacey Poole, Beth Lily, etc., instead of what Hollywood usually does (fake tits or average-at-best real ones).

By the way, it's "yea or nay," not "yay or nay."

reply

Nay, unless integral to the story. Some films are about intense relationships or sex itself. You can’t not have a sex scene in a Boogie Nights or Lady Chatterley’s Lover.

Sometimes a sex scene seems like it was tacked on to a movie just to satisfy incels and mouth breathers. For instance, I just watched The Looming Tower (2018) and had to endure scenes of Jeff Daniel’s ageing ass thrusting around - in a movie about 9/11 fcol! What kind of justification is there for that eye torture?! And I hate when these scenes come on when I am watching films with others, especially older folks or multigenerational groups. It just injects a big dose of AWKWARD into an otherwise fun group movie night.

Not needed.

If the director is clever they portray more with less.
