Do people when drunk actually really show their true self?

There is a lot of discussion about this. But if a person becomes pretty evil when drunk, does that mean that person is actually that evil? And that they're good at hiding it when sober? Or is there another alternative take on this?

I think, they're using being drunk as an excuse to step out of their comfort zone. Assuming that they are likely safe to some extent, because who would want to beat up a drunk lol? But alcohol can cause some people to become less inhibited.

some people when drunk , reveal their true enjoyment of hurting other people.
i'm talking about bar fights
they "want to beat up a drunk" , or anyone else , wether they are on board with being beaten up or not.

Alcohol tends to make statements more flippant, because it all matters less when the goal is to get a buzz. Reaction time is lowered, and it seems the reaction threshold equally goes up, allowing one to ignore more and clear the mind a bit while not really caring as much about "stuff."

My brother in-law is borderline alcoholic. Nice enough guy until he gets drunk. Then he can be an ass. So I would say, for him at least, no he does not show his true self.
