Dumbest Things People Have Told You About Movies

Newer movies are better than older movies.

reply

3D makes the story better.

reply

Did someone really tell you that?

reply

There were interviews with filmmakers during the "post Avatar" hype.

reply

That crazy. Lol. That would be kind of like saying a story is better if I watch it on Blu-ray instead of VHS.

A cousin of mine is a film snob who doesn't like action movies and he said, "I didn't like Terminator 2. It didn't have good character development." My brother had the perfect response. "Oh! V For Vendetta didn't have good character development!" My cousin had no rebuttle. He really only liked V for Vendetta because it was anti conservative.

I think the thing is though that nobody went to see Terminator 2 for character development. They went to see it to see Arnold kick butt. Expecting Terminator 2 to have good character development is like expecting Driving Miss Daisy to have violence and explosions.

"No movie over 90 minutes is worth watching."

reply

I know someone who said that 90 minutes is too long for a movie but binge watched the entire first season of "24" in a day and a half.

reply

Sheesh! Some folks have no awareness. 🙄

reply

I'm still trying to process how someone could watch 24 one hour episodes in a day and a half. 10 episodes at most.

reply

I'm a victim of binge-watching. Never thought I'd be, but boy, you get sucked in, especially when there's a cliffhanger. It doesn't have to be a big cliffhanger, either. You just want to know what happens.

I guess I really got roped in during the pandemic. What else is there to do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

reply

"The book is always better than the movie because there's more detail."

"The movie isn't even in colour."

"You didn't like it because you didn't understand it".

"I won't watch a movie unless the cast is 50% diverse".

"The Avengers is the greatest film of all time".

reply

Damn, all great ones!

reply

"You didn't like it because you didn't understand it".

Forgot about that one, it is a classic lol!

reply

I had someone say that to me about "The Fast and the Furious." "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is one of my favourite movies. Do they really think I wouldn't be able to "get" some stupid street racing movie?

reply

That diversity makes a movie better. That seems to be the theme of nearly every movie today even when it doesn’t make sense. Movies don’t have to be all things to all people.

reply

Newer movies are better in terms of technological advances in film techniques - so SFX, sound, editing, and quite frankly in a lot of cases the acting is better and more realistic simply because the actors are not massively overacting as were those in the older films who came up through the stage system. Older films have the advantage of being more original in a lot of cases since they came first, and usually the stories are more character driven with better development.

That's my two cents.

reply

The movie made over a billion dollars so that means it's good.

The move did poorly at the box office so it's bad.

reply

haha, right... dumb, conformist thinking
