Movies You Turned Off Within 5 Minutes?

"Natural Born Killers"

I'm sure there's a few more I'll think of later.

Bohemian Rhapsody. I was watching it on a flight from overseas. After about 10 or 15 minutes I was so bored
I turned it off. Can't remember any other movies that I've pulled the plug on like that.

I was a fan of the band, but there's no way I'll ever watch this movie.

Can you think of ANY great (and accurate) biopics?

reply

You're not missing anything, and no, I cannot.

Rocketman. I love Elton John. I didn't know this movie was going to be a musical.

The first Bill and Teds (I later watched it and thought sliiightly better of it)

Tank Girl.

Both around 10 to 15 minutes.

I almost never do this. I have to finish movies I start now. I don't feel that I can truly judge them without the full picture. Some movies redeem themselves late or things that seem stupid or bad have intelligent reasons for such explained later (like some cake eating episodes of Star Trek). This weekend, we wanted to watch The Poseidon Adventure (1972) again but could only get the 2005 made-for-TV one to play. We started it and nearly went mad over its 3 hour run time but we endured that pile of shit to the end. I can tell you with accurate certainty that it is 1/10.

I'm the same , a movie would have to be really terrible , or tasteless , or .. something for me to abandon it.
I do dop a lot of research before investing 2 hours though , by reading reviews and such
skim read about 20 from imdb or amazon , and take an avarage!

'Borat'. I was told not to miss it. I wish I had, though I lasted more than 5 minutes. Maybe 30-ish minutes in, I decided to cut my losses ( in time wasted ) and end it; the "humor" was so lame, so childish.

reply

Yes, a big piece of shit. I regret going to the theater to see it, but I was with someone else.

And Borat 2 is somehow even dumber.

reply

Faces of Death IV

Walked out of the theater after less than five minutes.

reply

I remember a friend renting those VHS... I can't stand gore.

reply

I remember the first one being legendary at the video store.

reply

what were you expecting?

reply

I went with a group of other people and I did not want to go, but went anyway. Told them it was a bad idea but no one listened.

There are seemingly endless mediocre films that would fit that bill. So I'll name a successful film, a blockbuster, that is raved about: Guardians of the Galaxy II. Not only did the first 5 minutes disengage me entirely (though the baby Groot dancing was entertaining -- only worthwhile moment in the film), but I hated the film from beginning to end.

Let me flip the question around and ask: Is there a film that once you got past the beginning you were hooked?

Valkyrie would be one answer of mine. I tried 3x to get past the first 20 minutes but couldn't for some reason. Then one day I forced myself past that mark and found that I liked the film enough to go back and watch it a couple of more times.

reply

agree on GotG2

Started it after mildly enjopying the first one , then fell asleep midway. I aint going back to it.

reply

Dont you guys ever think about what you're going to watch?
do you just go in blind from the title?
even then i'd never leave after 5 mins

reply

I spend a lot of time deciding what I'm going to watch... 20 years ago, because I wasn't as experienced, I actually would get a lot of random movies from Blockbuster, and I found some great stuff this way (and shit), but I had a special membership (Rewards) and rented plenty of movies each month.

reply

I often enjoy a movie I know nothing about other than the title. Research always plows up spoilers and diffuses buildup. I won't watch trailers for movies that I am certain I will watch for this reason. No one directs a movie assuming you know assorted plot points. It is nice to see it blind as it was made to be seen.

However, lately I do research a little. Most new movies I see are not good so I'll take the risk of spoilers.

reply

i too do not want spoilers , obvs , as the story is by far the most important element in a movie to me
way above budget , fx , actors , acting .

You just have to know how to to get an idea of what its about without spoilers.
imdb reviews are good - there ones with spoilers are flagged
trailers generally a no no as you say

reply

Even reading the synopsis can totally ruin a movie.

reply

a badly written synopsis might ruin a movie 1 time in 100

blindly watching random movies based solely on the title will result in watching shit you didnt want to watch 9 times out of 10

reply

I wouldn't say nine outta ten but I get your point. I research the movies I want to watch most of the time. There have just been tonnes of times where I wish I had no idea what they were about before I started watching them. Bit of a catch 22 though, cause I probably wouldn't have watched it in the first place if I didn't do a little checking up on it.

Saw

reply

The first one? I thought that movie was pretty good.
