What's your favorite serial killer movie?

I'm talking about real life stories of the hunt for one particular killer, or fictional serial killer movies. And why is it your favorite? The fictional ones are so unrealistic I'm sure. How likely is it that a serial killer in the real world would go about doing their thing like Michael Myers did in the Halloween movie, wearing a ghoulish mask? Or like Jason Voorhees from "Friday The 13th", carrying around an axe while wearing an old style goalie mask? One that stands out to me, was "The Deliberate Stranger", about the hunt for Ted Bundy. I also liked "From Hell" with Johnny Depp. It was about the hunt for "Jack The Ripper".

I still like Psycho because of the in-depth development of the characters and the subtleties in the plot and dialogue. I can watch this over and over and I never get tired of it.

Psycho for me too, I think it's Hitchcock's best film, and he made many fine movies. 🔪😲🚿

Perfect choice of emojis at the end of your post.

Zodiac, the David Fincher movie. Really really good. Plus it has Iron Man and Hulk together years before they were Avengers.

reply

Excellent choice

i guess it's not a movie.. but i always liked the Red John angle on "The Mentalist"

there was something quite sinister with that red face doodle.

Silence of the Lambs franchise.

Zodiac, Seven, Silence of the Lambs

The most disturbing I've ever seen is Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. Unless you venture into really sick and depraved fringe stuff like August Underground, you will not see a more intense portrayal of a serial killer on film.

reply

Who’s Watching Oliver (2017) is pretty gross!

reply

I have to agree with your pick here.

the august underground films are one of the few films that may have crossed a bit of a line for me. there's almost nothing that's too tasteless or ugly for my sensibilities, but those films actually made me feel kinda bad for having watched them.

Zodiac (2007)
To catch a killer (1992)

The iceman is pretty good.

Are you talking about the documentary? If you are, I saw it recently and that guy has to be the scariest real life killer ever.

reply

Nah, the movie with Michael Shannon.

The documentary I’m thinking of is about a hit man for the mob who’s in prison. I thought he was called the Iceman. This dude would kill someone just for the hell of it and not even think twice. I mean, he’s not like a serial killer in the sense that he’s not motivated be some uncontrollable urge to murder. His job was to kill and he just didn’t give a damn. Some guys cut him off on a back road one night and he said he stopped them and shot everyone for no good reason. He also recalled being in a bar and some dude mouthed off to him and he strangled the guy outside. To hear this guy talk, you know he’s someone you never want to meet up with.

the documentary was call "The Iceman Tapes". its the same guy. Richard Kuklinski. they made a movie on his story in 2012. personally i liked the doc more.

another mob psycho was Tommy Desimone. the joe pasci character from goodfellas was much crazier in real life. he would test a new gun by killing a random someone in the streets.
