Death by arrow in the eye?

Apparently, it was a very common way to die on the battlefield. There are many historical records that document kings getting killed in such a manner. It's interesting in how it was instant death and not just a flesh wound.

reply

Did it just stop in the eye though? I'm sure it penetrated some brain.

reply

Even if it's not it basically made them blind. And other troops could just then easily stab them in the neck or something.

reply

Even a slight graze would have someone down for a few minutes.

reply

It probably caused a bit of a ding to the back of the skull as well
That's not something you just walk off!

According the the story King Harold took a shot through the eye at The Battle Of Hastings (though there seems to be some academic dispute about this)

Whatever, OUCH!

reply

You gotta see me when a fly goes into my eye.

reply

I'm like a big weeping baby when a gnat gets in my eye, I doubt I'd handle an arrow very well😁

reply

Gnats are child's play. I can't count the number of times I've gotten habanero powder in my eye!! 😭

reply

I've done that with red pepper flake...moments like that make you realize we are ALL dumbasses😭!

reply

Totally!

reply

I can honestly say I'd rather take an arrow anywhere other than the eye.

reply

When you've got full armor then the eye is the most probable spot. Arrows that were shot to any other body parts would just bounced off. So if you get hit, it will be in the eye.

reply

Oh yes, I get how and why it would happen.

reply

Even up the bum-bum?

reply

Yep, I've got a real thing about eyes!

Apparently it was a very common elsewhere too...

A flesh wound? Arrow to the eye?

reply

Yes, definitely more than a flesh wound! 😁

reply

Exactly! Even a glancing shot would mess you up.

reply

custer took one in the neck

reply

I read that he was found with an arrow shoved up his pee hole like a hot dog weenie roast.

reply

Not in the ATARI version.

reply

We had a murder case here of a guy who supposedly used a crossbow to shoot his mother in the eye with a ballpoint pen.

reply

That’s an odd way to go.

reply

he was on the mark

reply

Quickest way to the brain for an arrow, so that makes sense it would be a deadly hit. The ocular nerve makes a direct channel.

Harold, the Saxon King, was reportedly killed by an arrow through the eye at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. However this has never been confirmed. Some have speculated that he was cut down by a Norman knight after being wounded in the eye.

This is depicted in the famous Bayeux Tapestry which I saw on my first trip to France. It's nearly 70 meters long,
but only 50 centimetres tall.
