Mine are:
π
1. Duran Duran β A View to a Kill
2. Paul McCartney & Wings β Live and Let Die
3. Carly Simon β Nobody Does It Better
4. Nancy Sinatra β You Only Live Twice
5. Adele β Skyfall
π
1. Sam Smith β Writing's on the Wall
2. Jack White & Alicia Keyes β Another Way to Die
3. Madonna β Die Another Day
4. Billie Eilish β No Time To Die
5. Garbage β The World Is Not Enough
I don't know why everyone hates that Sam Smith song. The movie is bad but the song is fine.
πBest
k.d. lang - Surrender, end title song (should've been the main title song)
Nancy Sinatra - You Only Live Twice
Johnny Cash - Thunderball (they didn't use it)
Adele - Skyfall
Paul McCartney and Wings - Live and Let Die
πWorst
Jack White & Alicia Keyes β Another Way to Die
That may be the only one I actually hate, and the rest are just general dislike
Sheena Easton - For Your Eyes Only
Rita Coolidge - All Time High
Gladys Knight - Licence to Kill
Madonna β Die Another Day
We'll see how it goes. I haven't seen Shalako yet, and it's been a long time since I watched Cowboys & Aliens. For a proper rework I'd need to be very familiar with the movie.
It would be cool if I could find Western performances from each of the Bond actors, and make a big mash of all of them. Any suggestions? Lazenby might be tough, because he wasn't in much. Universal Soldier (1971) isn't a western per se, but it might have some analogous imagery. Anybody seen it? How about other Bond actor westerns?
I like the start of the Sam Smith song, but then something happens a few bars in and it just sounds "off" to me. I tried a couple of times. Don't care for it.
Interestingly, I've been listening to the Bond CD compilation lately, it's actually in my boombox right now.
I really like Nobody Does It Better, so sweet.
And worst would be AHA's 'the living daylights', just based on their vocals.
I like the song Live and Let Die but it's not Bondesque enough for me to be a Bond song. I feel like the brief for such a job includes mysterious strings and trumpet accompaniment.
1. I'm not sure if #1 on your Worst list is the worst of the worst, or the least worst of the worst.
The worst of the worst for me would be Madonna.
2. Billie Eilish' song suffers from her little-girl breathy/ croaky vocals. I like the composition though. This mash-up of Skyfall and No Time to Die with vocals by Sorah sounds pretty good in lieu of.
π
Live and Let Die - Wings
Nobody Does It Better - Carly Simon
A View To A Kill - Duran Duran
Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey
We Have All The Time In The World - Louis Armstrong
Anyone else find it a little odd that the main Bond theme is basically surf music? Itβs a great theme of course but surfing isnβt something I would automatically associate with British secret agents
Best:
1. You Know My Name - this one is just badass
2. Skyfall - sounds classic, but also gets blood pumping
3. Live and Let Die - McCartney brought the heat
4. From Russia with Love - kinda wistful, I dig it.
5. Nobody Does it Better - it's become a cliche Bond descriptor for a reason.
There are a lot of great songs in the line-up, though.
5. Diamonds Are Forever - a bit of drama saves it from the lower spots, but it's still annoying.
4. All Time High - just kinda sappy, doesn't really sound like "Bond"
3. Moonraker - sappy and strange at the same time.
2. Writing's on the Wall - sounds weird to me
1. Die Another Day - it's bizarre and off-putting, the lyrics are weird...
Minority opinion: I really like Another Way to Die and No Time To Die. The former is crunchy and has drive, the latter is haunting. They didn't make my top spots, but I like them more than a lot of other themes.
YKMN kicked off Casino Royale right. From the minute the opening bars came in, it was so clear that this movie would be awesome. I also liked that they removed themselves from the necessity of naming the song after the title. Okay, they didn't do it with Octopussy (so obvious why), but generally-speaking, they held that standard. Trying to imagine a song titled "Casino Royale" is...it's hard to think that turns out well.
