What did you watch this week my peeps? (01/31-02/06)

Here we go again!

Rate these if you saw them:

Zero Charisma (2013 Tubi): Was suggested to me after watching Spaghettiman. I’m pretty glad I did. I wasn’t too sure about the main character but I ended up being fascinated by him and what was happening to him. The scene where he invites a friend to sleep over cracked me up real good. I had to pause to recover. I’m going to take a wild shot and say that if you enjoyed the show My name is Earl you’re gonna like this movie. I’m going to go as far as to say this movie could make a good TV show. I never played D&D or fantasy card games but somehow I relate to these types of movies. And these characters felt real to me. My rating: 7.5/10

12 strong (2018 TV): Cool cast, good quality of production, a tad long but I can’t blame them for trying to go for epic. Eck, at some point they were on some lord of the rings s**t with their horses riding in the mountains, grand music in the background. It’s also the kind of movie where the enemy will shoot 1000 bullets on the good guys but barely even kill one of them while they kill entire army with a few bullets. I’m exaggerating but you know what I mean. The helicoper views were very cool and thewar action was solid. I woul rename this movie Horses & Tanks. My rating: 7/10

In too deep (1999 DVD): If I made a top 100 favourite actors list, Omar Epps would be for there for sure. He would maybe even be in my top 50, idk. If I made a top 10 favourite movie sub-genre; Afro-American gangster (thugs) movies would definitely be in there. It would maybe even be in my top five. This movie is everything that I loved and everything that I still like. My only complaint about this movie is that everywhere the undercover cop goes people ask him are you a cop. Also, everybody is looking for the mysterious drug lord called God while he himself is running the streets constantly yelling “Im God birches, remember me!” Plus we don’t see Sticky Fingaz AKA Onyx long enough. Overall it’s a very solid piece of work that showcases the struggle of an undercover cop in the streets of Cincinnati very well. My rating: 7.5/10

Escape room (2019 Netflix): Ok, let me rent about the dialogue first. There is a sentence that many reviewers use that I hate but I’m going to use it now for the first time: it seems this was written by a bunch of energy drink fueled 13 yrs old. The first 30 minutes was especially cringe. All the (poorly written) characters retorts were as cheesy as possible. That being said, some of the tricks were fun, the set designs were awesome and the tension became palpable at some point. The second half was definitely better than the first. That « system override » in the final scene was so ridiculous it was funny. 5/10

The wife and I watched the first French Netflix Original series: Lupin (2021). It’s not crazy or mind-blowing but it is entertaining. Overall: 7/10

I started the final season of The big bang theory and I watched some amazing hockey from the Montreal Canadiens!

This week I watched ' The Alienist - Angel of Darkness ' (2018-20) Seasons 1 & 2 being 10 and 8 episodes respectively.

The show is visually appealing and has a very good cast. The contrast between the opulent lives of the rich of New York around 1900 and the squalid lives of the poor couldn't be more stark. The show is in the Gothic Horror genre I suppose and deals with awful serial murders committed by psychopaths. These loons are hotly pursued by an Alienist ( Psychologist ) with the help of the first female employee of the New York Police Department and their respective support crews.

In the first season the victims are boy prostitutes and in the second season babies if you can believe it. So not a show for those with more sensitive and gentle natures.

There is some Wokeness along with the Women's Liberation but it's not too bad. And there are some loose ends and quibbles with logic but that is to be expected these days.

Swing Time (1936) with Fred and Ginger. An excellent film with great dancing (or course) and some snappy dialog especially from the comic sidekicks. 7.6/10.

Meet Me in St. Louis. This is a charming musical from 1944, starring Judy Garland, Margaret O'Brien and Mary Astor.
It's set in 1903 and 1904 before the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. It features the hit songs "Clang, Clang, Clang Went The Trolley", "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "The Boy Next Door." It was directed by Vincent Minelli, who later married Judy Garland. 7.6/10.

Thanks and oops. I've watched seven movies on Amazon Prime. I got tired of waiting for the DVDs from Netflix.
