Actors who you felt were FORCED upon you by Big Studios

George Clooney. He was a TV star and made a bunch of bad movies but they kept giving him roles.

Ryan Reynolds. Another TV star who people used didn't seem to like and I felt like he was being forced upon us.

reply

Tom Cruise
Tired of his smirking self. Now with the sad AF Top Gun sequel. No more Tom Cruise for me.

reply

I agree.

George Clooney - I agree. OK look, under average actor, zero charisma,no humour.
Ryan Reynolds - I don't agree. Not particularly great actor, has great charisma, decent look, can play romantic lead as well as action hero equally good.
The Rock - I agree. This guy is overrated. I never watch his movies.
Ben Affleck - Not forced. While he is not good actor by any means,he is great director. Also is good lookin so he is rightfully casted as romantic lead.
Robert Pattinson - I think not. He really can be good actor when he's on. Same with Nick Cage.
Streep and Theron are world class actresses,so no.

I feel Michael Douglas is forced. He is not all that good actor. Or he is boringly casted as authorative, rich, selfish figure. His best work was Falling Down. Same with his wife Catherine Zeta Jones. All look,no talent.
Brad Pitt is 100% forced through his career. Average actor,no humour, good look, good body and that's all. Womens love him, that's enough for earning billions.
Also Arnold Schwarzenegger is forced as action hero. Don't get me wrong, he was my childhood idol. However, when you think - How the hell someone that ugly can be casted as leading action hero for 20 years? Not that charismatic as well, annoying accent...Maybe he had luck that his breaking role was as supporting villain in The Terminator.
Jen Lawrence - She is annoying with selfobsession. Always play same character. She's pretty, but there is plenty of prettier actresses.
From old Hollywood, Bogie was forced as romantic lead. Do you really think that all hot ladies of that period will fail for 170cm tall guy? I don't. Ok actor, too often playing depressed, eccentric leads.
James Woods was frustringly forced as nervous type of character. He was never convincing. He is also not good actor.Never get in character. His best performance was Casino. Only time where he was trying. That goes for Sharon Stone as well.

Milla Jovovich and Jessica Alba are so bad as actresses that it hurts.

reply

And I agree on Tom Cruise. Always, but always play same character.
I can't think of movie where you actually believed you watching movie character instead of TC.

reply

Specially when 5'6 Cruise portrays 6'5 Jack Reacher.

reply

Tom Cruise had that expensive surgery to gain 2 inches of height. He had it done like 10-15 years ago. He's officially 5' 8" now.

reply

Weinstein's favourite Jennifer Lawrence at number one
Meryl Streep is not the versatile actress they try to make us believe
Leonardo DiCaprio is hailed as one of the greatest actors of all time...I think not

And they're still trying and failing with K-Stew and R-Patz.

reply

DiCaprio has a lot of charisma. He's an okay actor. I think Dinero and Pacino are similar. Actors with great charisma but they've never blown my socks away and had me thinking 'oh wow they can act!' Pacino plays himself in many pictures.

reply

"DiCaprio has a lot of charisma."

He does? He has that weird face that makes him look like neither a man nor a boy. Maybe the looks for a boyband member, but not an actor. He's always miscast.

Pacino is no great actor, but really has charisma and is good at playing a certain type.

DeNiro is way more versatile than either of them.

reply

My problem with Streep earlier in her career was she had no sex appeal IMO. Its rare that I like a movie if I'm not hot for the female lead.

reply

I think she gets a bad rap from being way overexposed at one point, but I also think she is a quality actor. When someone totally sells me on very different characters (Silver Linings PB vs Hunger Games vs Joy), I have to respect the work.

reply

Zendaya. Terrible actress.

reply

Agree, she’s beautiful but her acting seems flat and minimalist at best.

reply

I just can't get on board with someone who only has one name. It's like, I'm so famous that I don't even need a surname! It just comes off as self-absorbed in my opinion. She's certainly very pretty, though.

reply

I like Clooney. He's handsome and handles his roles well. Didn't like him in "Oh, Brother ..." but otherwise I think he's very watchable.
What else do you want from a Movie Star? I think Pitt and Damon are watchable, Cruise even.
Clooney seems born to the role of Movie Star, not forced on us.

reply

I know what you mean in general, but I don't agree with either of your choices. I think both are very talented actors who easily carry a movie as the lead.

The one name that comes to mind for me is Gerald Butler.

reply

DiCaprio and Clooney.
