Hidden gem thread

You know the kind of movie I'm talking about. The one that you saw on HBO at 2AM 10 years ago that made you go "Wow, that was pretty damned good"

My two favorites have always been The Salton Sea with Val Kilmer and Phoenix with Ray Liotta

i watched skinner last week, & enjoyed it quite a bit.

a pigeon sat on a branch... is delightfully weird. i know i've seen one or two other films by that director, & found them just as odd and just as fun.

Hard Times (1975)

A depression era bare-knuckle boxing movie starring Charles Bronson and James Coburn.

Haibane Renmei.

It's a 12-episodes anime. It's the best anime I've ever seen. I think it's the best show I've ever seen.

It's usually praised and highly scored (8 in iMDB), but it's a gem few people know about. This review says it better than me

And another hidden short anime gem: Hinamatsuri. It takes 2-3 episodes to really start, but once it starts, you get some of the most intelligent humor I have seen since Monthy Python. That kind of humor about the human condition that makes you laugh and someway depress you at the same time.

Dirty Rotten scoundrels with Steve Martin.

One False Move
Cop
Standoff
Split Second
The Keeper
Final Combination
No Good Deed(2002)

If Split Second is the 1992 Rutger Hauer film, then I’m a fan.

The Wailing - Weird but great Korean movie and I won't describe it anymore.
Uncaged - On Amazon Prime now. A big lion roaming the city.
Trilogy of Terror - 1970s TV movie with three short stories all starring the same actress. GREAT.
Easy Living - A 30 something woman who has made many bad decisions trying to get by in this crazy world. Very good low budget flick.

All of the above are currently on Amazon Prime if anyone is interested.

When my kids were little I showed them the story with the crazy warrior doll. I don’t think I traumatized them too badly. 😀 If you haven’t seen them already, check her out in The Pyx (1973) and Burnt Offerings (1976).
