Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

https://www.yahoo.com/news/many-frontline-workers-refuse-covid-201555764.html

A large percentage of front-line workers in hospitals and nursing homes have refused to take the Covid-19 vaccine, a hurdle for public health officials as the country struggles to roll out inoculations around the country.

About 50 percent of front-line workers in California’s Riverside County have refused to take the vaccine, Riverside Public Health Director Kim Saruwatari told The Los Angeles Times on Thursday. California is currently overwhelmed with cases as hospital staff in Southern California face a shortage of intensive-care units and have created makeshift units.

Anecdotally, an estimated 60 percent of Ohio nursing home employees have refused the vaccine already, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said during a news briefing Wednesday.

A survey of 2,053 New York City firefighters found that more than half said they would refuse the Covid-19 vaccine when it became available to them, according to a poll released by the Uniformed Firefighters Association this month.

I know three nurses, and NONE of them will take it. One said she'll take it if they make her, and one said she'll quit, because she takes medication and says she knows the vaccine will have a ton of side effects, and how many will take years to discover. She went on to say (some which I didn't understand) how and why those side effects won't have symptoms.

reply

They need to take it. Vaccines are only really of concern for small children and they're not being asked to take it. It will make you sick but you will build an immunity to it.

As someone who has had the virus and suffered tremendously as a result, I'd be happy to trade whatever side effects this vaccine has for what covid did to me.

reply

Sorry to hear that you suffered from having had the virus.

How long ago were you infected?

What kind of effects did it have on you?

Do you still suffer from any after effects of having had it???

Some of the stories that one hears about "LONG HAULERS" who still suffer from having had it are horrific!!!

reply

My case was weird. I started feeling down on march 13, 2020. I got flu symptoms like fever and sinnus the next week. It cleared up and I thought i was better. Then I realised I had no sense of smell. From there it got much worse. I wasn't tested for nearly 2 weeks. I tested positive April 1. I was then getting sicker when I thought I would be nearly over it. I developed shortness of breath. I was hospitalised in case I deteriorated quickly. I was fine. I then did another week of quarantine. My sense of taste started to come back. I then tested negative.

You'd think I would be better in a week or so? But it took me months and months to get my energy back. Same for my sense of smell. I had weird joint pains that still persist today in the balls of my feet. It's not as bad as before, but I'm still aware of it.

I consider myself a long hauler for how long it took to have my energy back. Plus I was waking up with a headache for a good six months afterwards. Felt like a hangover.

Terrible illness, and I am normally a healthy guy who beats the flu no problem at all.

reply

Thanks for the explanation which is appreciated very much. How long did you stay in the hospital??? Glad to hear you didn't deteriorate any further while you were there!!!

What you went through is weird. And it's also strange how other people also seem to be having all kinds of different SIDE EFFECTS from the vaccinations too. So WHY does it effect us all so differently??? Has anyone ever discussed that before???

Also sorry to hear about the lack of energy and the headaches. It's also amazing how other people still refuse to get vaccinated even when they've probably also heard about what can happen to them if they do get it.

Perhaps if someone reads what you've said happened to you it might also get someone to change their mind???

Or maybe not???

Especially the poster who thinks those who get vaccinated will end up having a taste for eating human flesh like the case was in FIREFLY and in SERENITY.

I heard that the virus affects people based on their blood type or DNA.

I had done a few 6am shifts leading up to my infection and I wonder if being sleep deprived worsened my experience. Had I been well rested perhaps my body could have fought it off quicker.

I was in hospital for two nights, just for observation.

They said I was fine but the discharge summary said early stage pneumonia.

reply

Did the pneumonia progress beyond the early stage? From what else you said it doesn't sound like that happened.

I also read that people with Type A blood types were more likely to catch it for some reason.

Since sleep deprivation can lower your immune system, that also makes sense that not getting enough of it could have had something to do with catching it.

Someone else I know who also got infected with it over the CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS was also working a 6am shift and wasn't getting enough sleep either.

But not getting enough sleep still doesn't explain the reason why so many others who get vaccinated have so many other different kinds of reactions to it (which may also indicate you might be right about blood types being the reason).

Will also try doing a search to see if anything pops up that indicates the reason for all of the different reactions to it.

FOUND THIS article which also says its the amount of VIRUS LEVELS that you have in your blood that determines the symptoms that you get and they compare it to like being invaded by a small army or a large army of VIRAL CELLS. PLUS it also explains other factors that are involved as well:

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/getting-healthy-now/202004/why-do-symptoms-vary-so-much

A large part of how you feel and how sick you get is linked to your immune response. You can think of the virus as an “invading army,” where a larger cohort will wreak more damage. That is true for flu and other viruses, and may explain why some point outbreaks are so much faster and more lethal than others; ten million viral particles coming at you at once is a lot harder to fight off than five hundred.

But it’s also a matter of how you fight.

immune response in certain individuals goes into overdrive. What’s called a “cytokine storm” may be one of the major reasons some patients go from looking relatively healthy to going into shock in a matter of hours.

reply

Unfortunately my wife is a long hauler also but her lasting symptoms are neurological. Sorry to hear your still dealing with it too.

reply

Sorry to hear about your wife. What kind of neurological issues is she dealing with now???

How long ago did she become infected with it???

They say the NEW MUTATED STRAINS or the VARIATIONS of it are even WORSE, yet people still refuse to get vaccinated as a way to protect themselves from getting it.

And, imo, that also makes no logical sense whatsoever to put oneself at risk of catching it.

reply

Actually, the nurse who takes medication should really take the vaccine.
It is very likely that she's in a risk group and will become really sick if she catches the virus.
Also, I say it should be mandatory for nurses.

reply

I read one say she plans on having a baby one day, and doesn't wanna take chances.

reply

And in what way would a vaccine make that more difficult for her?

reply

She's afraid for her and her baby's health, so she's not going to take it.

reply

But if she's not pregnant now, there should be no problem.
Besides, it can't be good to become sick with a full-blown Covid-19 infection while you're pregnant either.

reply

I guess she's thinking of the future. Worried about herself and her baby.

reply

So what happens if she get Covid and that has long term consequences for a future pregnancy?

Either option has an unknown factor.

reply

Who knows.

reply

Those nurses must be the women you keep in your dungeons of death fantasy.

It's all in your head. Your a fool. Shame on you.

reply

A more worrying scenario here is what happens a year or so from now when the vaccinations have been rolled out to all who want it? Then you will have a significant portion of the population not vaccinated. How will those people be viewed and treated by others?

For example, job interviews. Yes, companies cannot ask people to vaccinate nor even ask of they have been vaccinated, but behind the scenes if they know someone is not vaccinated, like they do all the time they can refuse that person a job, as they don't have to declare the reason for it.

Its also possible, and has been discussed that people could be asked to carry something to show they have been vaccinated. I hope not, but its possible.

I received my first vaccination yesterday and was given a card showing the date, and also the date my second one is due. It also has my name on it. It also says you should keep it on you. However, I dont believe that its a requirement or law to do so.

But when we talk about unlikely scenarios such as the above, the future is uncertain. A year ago, we would not have believed that people would be challenged by police in the street, in parks and sitting on benches in public asking why they are out, what is their purpose etc. That happens here in the UK.

And how "unlikely" are vaccine passports now?

reply

Since Here in the US we also already have LAWS in all 50 STATES that require kids to be VACCINATED for MUMPS and other diseases before they can go to school with other kids ...

my bet is LAWS are also going to be passed that say anyone who wants to work in places where they could spread the VIRUS to other people (especially in restaurants for example) will also be required to be VACCINATED.

And since you're also required to show a PICTURE ID before you can fly on an airplane, you'll probably also need to show some kind of ID that states that you've been vaccinated before you can travel on a plane.

Because you were also already required to stay in isolation for 14 DAYS once you reached a destination in another different country that you traveled to.

So it also MAKES SENSE that AIRLINES will probably also refuse to let those NOT VACCINATED FLY and have them put other passengers at RISK of CATCHING the NEWER STRAINS of the VIRUS that the VACCINATIONS won't protect you from. Because the bodies of those NOT VACCINATED will also become HAVENS for the PRODUCTION of those NEWER more LETHAL and CONTAGIOUS VARIATIONS of the VIRUS.

PLUS we also have a HISTORY here of LOCKING people up who SPREAD diseases to other people -- like the case was with TYPHOID MARY who was FORCED to spend the rest of her life LOCKED AWAY from others.

Mary Mallon - Wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typhoid_Mary

Mary Mallon (September 23, 1869 – November 11, 1938), also known as Typhoid Mary, was an Irish-born cook believed to have infected 53 people with typhoid fever, three of whom died, and the first person in the United States identified as an asymptomatic carrier of the disease. Because she persisted in working as a cook, by which she exposed others to the disease, she was twice forcibly quarantined by a…

So what?

If YOU get the vaccine YOU should be immune, right? So why does anyone give a shit if someone else doesn’t want to get it? Get YOUR vaccine, and YOU’RE protected. Have YOUR family and the people YOU care about get THEIR vaccine, and THEY’RE protected.

So sick of some people trying to force everything on other people. Live your own goddamn lives and leave other people alone.

This is coming from someone who is getting the vaccine, so spare me the “anti-vaxxer” bullshit responses, and instead move on to the next “offensive” thing in our country you want to try and ban.

Have a good day.

reply

“The goal of the vaccine is to create immunological memory in the body so that when you encounter the virus in the future, your immune system rapidly ramps up and attacks the virus very quickly before you get sick. Therefore, as long as the vaccine boasts a strong immunological response, it is likely that the virus will be stopped from replicating in your system pretty quickly,” Dr. Hokeness says. That would limit your ability to spread it to others.“It can happen, but the risks would be far less than if you were not vaccinated,”

Are you talking to ME?

reply

Mr DeNiro, I’m talking to anyone on this thread who has a difficult time NOT trying to force other people to do things they might not want to do, for medical reasons, or ANY other reason. There’s a lot of that going on in this country these days. It’s getting really old.

My cousin got the 1st vaccine a few days ago, and her kidney disease that was in remission for 12 years came roaring back suddenly. That isn’t a biased mainstream news article...it really happened. So all the people trying to force everyone in the world to get vaccinated when some people don’t want to can eat shit.

All that being said, as far as I can see, your posts were fine. I didn’t see any of that crap I was talking about coming from your original post or any responses. I apologize if I hit reply to the wrong person.

reply

Anybody who gets the virus might spread it and cause another person's death.
So that is why people who refuse the vaccine make me angry.
Really, this is not the time to complain about your rights and only think about yourself.
And that is especially true if you work with vulnerable elderly and disabled people.

reply

Then stay home. Avoid people. And wear your mask. There. You’ll be fine. Live the rest of your life in fear. There are lots of other ways to die too that you can be afraid of after all this is over.

I say this as someone who works in healthcare, wears a mask, socially distances, supports the vaccine, and is scheduled myself for the vaccine.

And it’s ALWAYS time to remind people that freedoms are being taken away on a daily basis. YOU are FREE to stay away from people if you’re worried. YOU are FREE to receive the vaccine to protect yourself. I am not thinking about myself when I defend people’s freedom and rights. Far from it.

So you can continue your crusade with your Gestapo like minded acquaintances to round up anyone who doesn’t have their vaccine card and force them under restraint to get vaccinated, or lock them up somewhere away from all the vaccinated people. I’ll gladly take the other side of that debate all day every day.

reply

Wow...
It is not Gestapo-like to do what you can to keep the pandemic from killing people.
Really, I can't see this refusal to be responsible and considerate as anything but extremely immature.
And you say you work within healthcare.
Wow...

reply

Yep. I work in healthcare. Wearing my mask and following all precautions. And I’m very good at my job. You don’t know a damn thing about me random internet fascist.

Yeah, anyone who doesn’t want to force people to get a vaccine if they don’t want it is being immature. 🙄

Yes, it is Gestapo like. Of course you can’t see any other side than your own narrow view, besides the fact it is wrong to force a vaccine on anyone, but you’re also not taking into consideration anyone with underlying conditions or immune system issues that prevent certain vaccinations. Wonder what you’ll want to force everyone to do next once COVID is under control? Wow...

reply

Going off things you have posted I sincerely doubt you work in the healthcare field. I do not support forcing anyone to do anything but you are one of those types that supports the mentality that it is every man for himself. If I am wrong and you do work in the healthcare field that is a shame. I take issue with that way of thinking because if that is the case why can't I as a taxpayer pick and choose what I want to pay for that other people use? Such as the fire department, police, or public schools. I do not use any of those things therefore I should not have to pay for them.

reply

Going off things you have posted I sincerely doubt you work in the healthcare field.

Well, I do, and I have for the last 8 years, and it makes no difference to me whether you believe it or not. And like I mentioned before, I am good at my job.

I do not support forcing anyone to do anything

Except forcing people to inject foreign substances into their bodies? 🤔

I take issue with that way of thinking because if that is the case why can't I as a taxpayer pick and choose what I want to pay for that other people use?

Hey, I suggest you speak to your elected politicians. It makes no difference to me what you want to pay taxes for. I don’t disagree with you. There are a ton of things I’d rather not pay taxes for, but personally I’m happy to pay taxes for roads, police and firefighters (It’s nice to know they are there if anything should go wrong), and K-12 education is fine with me.

reply

I honestly do not believe you. If I am wrong perhaps my judgement is off, but my initial feeling is that you do not. I also highly doubt you are good at your job also. This is speculation though so I will not comment anymore on this thing because no way to prove it either way.

Where Did I say it was okay to force people to inject foreign things into their bodies? Are we going to straw man now? Careful that is a sign of poor debating skills.

What makes you think I have that kind of clout to get elected politicians to listen to me? See but that is just it you are fine paying taxes for things other people use but want to pitch a fit and deny universal healthcare. I would be happy to pay taxes for healthcare, it is nice to know it is there if anything should go wrong sound familiar? However I am taking many right wingers approach. I don't have kids therefore I could say hey I did not have kids therefore I shouldn't be paying for other people's kids education. I do not use the fire department therefore my money should not go to them. I do not use the police therefore I should not have to pay that either. It goes on and on. When people say I do not want to pay for other people's healthcare it is saying it is every man for himself. So why not go all that way with that way of thinking? We should choose what we pay taxes for.

reply

The fire dept is in case it happens in the future.

I'm all for universal health care, housing, higher education, but I think incentivizing children in an already populated country isn't a great idea. I do think they should be ensured all the necessities because its not their fault if their parents can't afford food.

This is just a theory without much thought, but I wonder how spending would be if we had to appropriate the money ourselves on our taxes. I can't see many opting to keep spending more money on this military shit.

reply

Fair points actually and a good question.

reply

Thank you.

reply

Once again...I do not give a shit whether you believe me or not...about anything.

Ok, you pay for everyone’s universal healthcare and college education, and I’ll continue to pay into police, fire, and K-12 education. Works out perfectly. I’d love to pick and choose where my tax dollars go. It’s “shocking” our government and elected officials won’t let us choose, and decide for us based on what keeps their biased votes rolling in.

I’m just curious, are you the socialist (oooh, buzzword, beat you to it) who wants to legalize all hard drugs? Right?

I’m done. This is not the politics board.

reply

Good to know.

See that is just it I do not have a choice whether I pay into police, fire department, schools etc. You act as if I have that option and I do not.

I want the war on drugs to end yes. Hey these drugs can ruin your life, so lets charge you with a felony ruining your life to protect you from ruining your life. Doesn't that sound like a broken system. So long as you are not affecting another person the law should not bother you. Drug addicts will find a way to do drugs whether it is legal or not. We should focus on getting them help and rehabilitation rather than legal fees and incarceration. It would open up the prisons for more harsh criminals such as murderers, rapists etc.

Okay then care to continue debate on the politics board? Or do you have no interest?

reply

Find one of my replies to complain about on the politics board. Haha.

I’ll always try to get back when I can. 👍🏻

On the news (ALL IN on MSNBC) they said that We "GUINEA PIGS" (or those of us who have been VACCINATED) are now in a PERCENTAGE where only .008 percent of us get the VIRUS.

And when that EXTREMELY SMALL percent of us GET IT, we usually also have much less serious symptoms and complications and don't need to go to the hospital or DIE from it.

IVANKA also got a VACCINE as well and posed for a photo showing her getting it.

Then a bunch of ANTI VAX commenters also TWEETED lots of VERY RUDE REMARKS to her for getting it.

And her "The virus is a HOAX" DADDY and her STEP MOMMY who also "GOT the HOAX" also got VACCINATED as well.
