Does Anyone Else Listen To Mostly Sad Music?

For me, it's either it's sad, somber, melancholic, in a minor chord.. I can't think of too many happy songs I have in over 5,000 mp3s.

Sometimes singles (Billy Joel's "Pressure" as an example) are released in a major key as opposed to the album version in a minor key.

I also like dark stuff, and not necessarily diminished chords. Those Sabbath riffs, again, usually reverting to a half-step instead of the whole-step, Middle-Eastern vibe, ala The Doors and Pink Floyd.

I know David Gilmour said it's very hard to write a happy song. I love his "sad" guitar solos.

I try to stick to upbeat music, since repeatedly listening to sad stuff can really bring me down. Here's the saddest song I've ever heard, and its my favorite. https://youtu.be/TuxW8Db7KRo

I am probably in the minority, but when I'm sad, I like to commiserate with a GREAT sad song.

I have a few Rita Coolidge songs (We're All Alone, etc) but I'll check this out right now.

I think so yes; my playlists are mostly songs in the minor key and would be termed as sad.
It’s not that I don’t like upbeat, happy music but I appreciate the emotional vibes and haunting tunes more.
They were playing Christmas songs on the radio and I was waiting Frankie Goes to Hollywood to be played in the line up!

"Can't Take My Eyes Off You" is a great uplifting song.

That’s what the kids call “emo” behavior.

reply

I have no idea what "emo" is

reply

I’m guessing MovieBuff does

reply

Bert Kaempfert isn't even remotely Dutch.😑

reply

how an i suppose to tell from a instrumental piece?

reply

Because Bert Kaempfert is a well-known GERMAN musician (he wrote Strangers in the Night). And there's nothing in that clip that suggests he's Dutch.

reply

there's nothing that says he is NOT Dutch. He wrote the music to Strangers in the Night. Very nice:

So everyone should be assumed to be Dutch unless it's explicitely stated they're not???😐

reply

his name seemed dutch to me. german and dutch are similar? bert had a beatles connection from his days in hamburg which is interesting.

I really enjoy songs in minor keys. I don't always find them sad, and even if they are sad, I don't usually get sad listening to them.

On a side note, when I was growing up my mom hated me listening to Depeche Mode. She always would tell me that I'd never be happy listening to Depress mode. To this day, my friends still call them that.
