George Foreman was just as frightening back in the day. So much that Muhammad Ali's camp were nervous for his life when the Rumble In The Jungle happened

I happened to watch The Greatest (1977) just days ago and was surprised and entertained to see Ali playing himself in the film.
Ali's camp recruited a former sparring partner of Foreman's prior to that bout because he supposedly wasn't being paid enough. He really shot down their aspirations in a group discussion, claiming Foreman was "a brute", no sparring partner could touch him, and, he was the type to kill a man in the ring. Ali made the observation that there was no fight in his history where he seemed to last past 5 rounds. From that point on, it became all about endurance. We saw that strategy being played out during the actual fight, i.e., "rope-a-dope." He let Foreman, a power puncher, wear himself out (much like all of the Rocky Balboa fights). And it worked. Foreman petered out in the 8th round and Ali dropped him to the canvas, regaining his title.
Eric Esch aka Butterbean was also pretty terrifying. He looks like the kind of bloke who you simply couldn't knock out due to his huge neck/head.

shareDon't know anything about boxing but I always thought Tyson was at his peak when there happened to be no one of equal stature around - so he simply demolished anyone who came up against him. As opposed to Ali-Frazier-Foreman and a bunch of almost as good boxers.
It's a pity you can't assemble all the champions at their peak and have a simple knockout competition. Even then would it be fair given the bigger stature and better training of more recent champions?
Either him or Foreman in their primes were the most frightening because of their punching power. Not sure about Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano as I've never watched any of their fights.
