Is Generation Z more arrogant and entitled than any other?

Sure seems like it, they really have zero respect and think they are God’s gift despite most of them having zero world experience and generally being weak willed and cowardly

Yes they are! They were raised on "Participation" Trophies.

Funny, they used to say that about my generation when we were all in our teens and 20s. What worries me is how saturated with electronics and tech today's generation has. They've never experienced a world without the internet, expecting everything to come to them instantly when they want it. In fact, I worried about this years ago when I was a kid/teen, and the internet was still in its infancy.

Another thing to worry about is just how F-ing DUMB today's generation is. I mean, I was going to a trade school with a whole bunch of other women from Generation Z, and none of them had an IQ higher than 70. They acted like the world started in 2010, and completely disregard or ignore anything that came before that, including movies or pop culture.

I tried recommending some interesting movies from way back when, and one of them goes "Wow, that movie is old!" and another said "That came out before I was born!" and I said "So? I watch all sorts of movies that came out before I was born. Doesn't make them bad or not worth seeing."

Here are some other interesting traits of these idiots from Gen Z: they listen to almost nothing but crap without the C, Taylor Swift, are on social media all the time, gobble up all the latest new apps, and have almost no concept of "Lord of the Rings!" And they only seem interested in who is sleeping with whom, whether it's relatives or famous people. I really pity the "Miley Cyrus/Taylor Swift/Kim Kartrashian generation" right now.

I do not have good feelings about this generation at all.

The powers that be want them to be dumb. They go to school and are taught how to think, what to think, when to think it. I agree about their music and TV shows and movies too. They know it is all failing and with social media it's not the same as it used to be where you kind of knew things were bad but you were more isolated so had some hope. They know it is all for nothing and have probably seen their parents get laid off from jobs, seen their friends sink a fortune into studies only to still be unemployed.

Even when I was a kid back in the 70's and 80's, plenty of my friends had no idea about old films and music. So I don't think that one is exclusive to Gen Z.

No, I don't think so. I was also a kid of the 1970s and 80s, and I clearly remember being more exposed to old movies and TV shows than this generation. We had Golden Oldies stations, and Top 40 radio played older music all the time. For example, here in NYC, we had stuff like WNBC and WCBS, which played doo wop, Motown and classic rock. We had stations that played older jazz, too.

Older movies also played on TV repeatedly, and older stars of Hollywood and legends of music--who were responsible for this stuff--were alive and still in the public eye, so you would see and hear their stuff all the time.

Plus, there was a huge doo wop/1950s resurgence in the 1970s because of Sha Na Na and Happy Days.

So, when you say that you had plenty of friends who had no idea about old films and music, you're being a bit flippant. If you were 10 in 1980, you knew who Alfred Hitchcock, Elizabeth Taylor, John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, etc. were and had heard of or seen at least one of their movies. You knew of and had heard of The Beatles, The Stones and Elvis Presley.

reply

I was referring to people I knew. I know that due to a lack of internet and even VHS (it was around but not everyone had it) that we were mostly resigned to watching whatever was on TV.

I wasn't being flippant actually, I had friends who really hadn't seen anything made outside of their lifespan. I think you can know who people are without ever seeing their works, for example I know who Kim Kardashian is however I have never watched her show.

I was sooooo happy when the digital tv guide came about. I hated those paper tv guides because they weren't accurate for anyone who lived outside of cities, and they were out-of-date after just a few weeks. The stories and interviews they wrote were more interesting than the inaccurate listings.

I really did not enjoy flipping through channels like my dad would do, because often you only got flashes of what was going on, you missed out on anything that was on when you weren't there to channel-flip, and quite often you only saw part of a movie or tv show and never had the chance to see the whole thing! Digital, real-time tv guides have been a lifesaver!

reply

I'm just old enough to remember TV's that didn't even have remote controls and black and white TV's were still around!

The paper TV guides were pointless as well because down here the networks would purposely allow shows to overlap onto the next time segment so if you wanted to watch one show then the movie on another station you would sometimes miss the start or end of one of them. Not to mention it made it hard to set the VHS!

Ahh channel flipping, that is all about what else is on!

It makes me glad I went to school in the 90s and early 2000s; it's only gone downhill from there. Back then, they at least taught us real math, how to write in cursive, critical thinking, and thinking outside the box. I will tell you that they were not very good in the history dept, but the bias and dishonesty was less obvious back then than it is now.

The most political we got was snickering at Bill Clinton and sometimes complaining about the Iraq War...that's it. I never had a teacher or fellow classmate want to bite my head off for not being a liberal, though they did sometimes act like I was out of my mind, or that I was weird.

In Australia in the 80's it was about inclusion and assimilation. It didn't matter where someone was from or what their religion, skin colour etc was. We all saw ourselves as Australians, except for the Greeks and Slav's who clung onto their heritage no matter what.

After that they decided it would be more effective to cause division by allowing people to come in and never expecting them to live as though they are in a completely different country and culture.

We had some Leftie teachers but we knew they were full of it. Back then you would laugh at Left wingers and their stupidity.

Yes, we were taught how to write, how to find information in actual books rather than just type the question into the computer.

What generation are you, because they never said that about my generation, GenX. The two biggest complaints about us is that our entertainment was hollow, in that it was about nothing but cheap pop cultural references and nostalgia, and that we were too apathetic about things politically (I guess, because we weren't out in the streets protesting like they were in their 20s.).

reply

I'm Gen Y, a millennial, but I don't quite fit into all the stereotypes they throw at my generation. The world doesn't owe me anything, I don't live in my parents' basement, and I'm extremely uninterested in protesting anything or becoming a socialist.

I always thought Gen Y had an advantage because we were born into the analog world and spent some time knowing how things were done before the internet and everything became digital. We also had the pleasure of seeing the Millennium come about as teenagers, and experience the earliest years of the 21st century during that time as well. Gen Z's know nothing about any of that.

reply

No. I'll bet that if you put a bunch of people from a bunch of generations in a room together, gen Z wouldn't even win bronze in the arrogant and entitled Olympics.

reply

Why does everyone think boomers are so bad? I think they can be ignorant and annoying but at least a good chunk of them are hard working and level headed. Gen Z are a bunch of space cadets.

35-40?? How are they entitled that’s an odd range

Well, that's a stupid thing to say, because if the previous generations were so arrogant and entitled, they wouldn't have created so many things that brought society forward by leaps and bounds. The previous generations ended acid raining, toxic waste dumps, carcinogens in food and medicine, and second hand smoking. They created things like Greenpeace, Earth Day, "green" technology (solar panels, biodegradable plastics) and recycling. They marched against wars and fought for social progress in the way of women's, gay and minority rights. They invented all of this technology designed to make life easier and more convenient, as well as to draw people together, like email, webcams, video conferencing, cell phones, etc.

They gave us medical breakthroughs, like open heart surgery, infertility treatments, face transplants, etc.

So, we know that the previous generations weren't arrogant and entitled, based on the large number of movements, technologies and other things they produced that wound up making society and the world a better place.

WTF have millennials created that's made society and the world better? Nothing. All of their "innovation" comes down to sowing seeds of nihilism and chaos, giving voice to the worst members of society or parasitically destroying industries via their apps and effing "gig economy" b.s. Every day in every way, it seems as if the entire purpose of millennials and GenZs is to destroy everything remotely positive or uplifting because of what a bunch of nasty little nihilistic brats they are.

So, you are wrong that they wouldn't win the bronze. They'd not only win the gold but a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Idk why I just found this response, but it makes no sense. In a way, I almost feel like you're proving my point.

Past generations have achieved amazing things, credit where credit is due. But what does that have to do with entitlement or arrogance? You can possess either of these traits and still have contributed to the good of the world. Hitler was a dog loving vegetarian who made concerted efforts to end animal extinction and minimize the use of tobacco, but that's not how his bio reads. Not to mention all the bad done by the previous generations, which is now left to the current generation to shoulder.

And completely undervaluing the achievements of current generations is such a dated way of thinking. Not to mention that it's completely without merit. Think of all-robotic or micro-surgeries, for one thing, which reduce the risk and duration of surgery and recovery times for patients. There's the artificial liver, the Braille glove, the birth control patch and yes, I'll even add GPS. The fact that you reference "millenials" as brats is part of why I'd say young people aren't the arrogant ones.

Besides this, arrogant/entitled people can be part of great movements (think Betty Freidan) and many more people who display these traits are not necessarily the people who made up any previous positive movements or innovations.

At the end of the day, every generation has its entitled and arrogant people. This isn't a debate about who's done the best and achieved the most. But as a whole, I don't believe the current generation/s could possibly be the most entitled or arrogant. No young person in this time has grown up with secure work and therefore secure everything else, such as basics like food and housing, especially when whatever wages they do earn are stagnant. So what exactly do they feel entitled to?

reply

I'm not sure. However there seems to be a lot more hot 18 year teens in porn today so Generation Z has that going for them, which is nice.

reply

I don't think so. I think it may just seem that way because of social media leading to every complaint and offense being reported on. Social media is so powerful both politically and economically, it's all about the clicks and likes/dislikes in modern society and it's plastered everywhere.

reply

I just have a hard time figuring out which age group belongs to which 'generation' ! I think I'm a boomer but not entirely sure 🤷‍♀️

They grew up with the internet, a tool that gives everyone a voice and access to instant gratification of any whim or wonder. They don’t have many opportunities to practice patience or delayed gratification. They have platforms that glorify and reward every inane thing they post. This has similarly affected members of the other generations too, but some are still humbled by their non-techie roots or are luddites.
