A TV show made before 1990 that you think has aged well?

The show itself is just okay. It's Peter Falk's performance as Columbo that elevates it to a whole other level and makes it one of the all-time greats.

As for Magnum: did a TV character ever sport shorter shorts than Magnum? I remember in one of the earlier eps a woman staying at Robin's Nest espies Magnum in his barely-there shorts and subsequently asks Higgins why Magnum's walking around in broad daylight in his underwear. Personally, I think likening Magnum's shorts to underwear is charitable: I've run across knickers much, much more modest than Magnum's shorts ever were.

Good show though all the same.

Real cops regularly said that Barney Miller portrayed life at a police station more accurately than any cop show ever made. Even though it was a comedy, those kinds of quirky things really happened.

Yes. I watch it on Antenna TV, and it's bizarre how so many of the incidents on the show could happen today, even though it took place in gritty 1970s NYC.

I think sitcom's tend to age badly, especially ones from the 80's. Also a lot of the shows from the 80's in general, Knight Rider, Fall Guy etc. Still fun as far as nostalgia goes but we are talking some very simple and slow plots.

We didn't watch Gunsmoke when I was a kid so when I see it now, it's pretty entertaining. I like being invested in the regular charaters and that the show does (for me) create tension and uncertainty - even when we know Matt and the crew aren't gonna die - makes me feel like it has held up well.
Personally, I'm not sure I want to engage with the Andy Griffith Show at this point, (too corny and saccharine), but if I gave it an honest try, I might not be so harsh.
