Have you ever seen a dead person in real life?
I have seen mummies and human embryos in a museum so technically yes, but not like a corpse or anything.

shareThat’s no way to talk about my ex-girl when we were doing....uh, when we were in....uh, nevermind, you know the score....
Nah, but seriously— yeah, someone mentioned a wake....that’s some tough stuff, my predominantly catholic family is pretty serious about that traditional ritual, which is why I don’t like funerals...the funerals aren’t too bad because you aren’t seeing the body, but you are graveside....it’s the wake where you have the chance to view the deceased, a little morbid to me, but that’s my family, they stick to the catholic script....
Good ti....oh wait....more like sour times....

Well, it's a hard thing to change the ways of a religious person, harder than most things.
shareYeah, I left the church long ago, I’m pretty much an agnostic, which I’m not necessarily proud of and I don’t boast of it like it’s some great thing, like it’s a good virtue or something....I may playfully mock my family’s devotion to it, but I wouldn’t do it to their face, I respect them and anybody’s right to practice whatever makes them feel good or whole....I’m might have jokingly mocked someone a few nights during a thread about something or another and I used “friggin Catholics” as a punchline in describing something, I may have offended them, so I try to be careful....but not too careful, hahahaha...anything for a chuckle is my mantra, as long as it’s not dead babies or other lousy subjects, but I digress....
‘Cheers’ doesn’t feel right to put at the end here, so I say to everyone, have a great and safe weekend!
Believers should be able to joke about their beliefs i think. It's not healthy to take yourself too seriously, be proud but also relax.
shareHave you really never been to a funeral?
shareOther than funerals, yes.
In high school, I was serving detention on a Saturday for getting caught ditching school for a trip to Huntington Beach. At the end of my service, I was walking to the student parking lot and there was an old guy laying on his back by a dumpster, surrounded by soda cans. Looked like he'd been jogging (shorts and red dust on shoes). His head was purple and he'd pissed himself. I shook him and touched his neck thinking I would get some pulse like they do it in the movies but instantly knew that I didn't know wtf I was doing. I sprinted to the resident teacher and paramedics were summoned. To no avail.
I didn't feel shook but I did have a weird numb feeling for a few days. Prob mild shock.
Sub note: I'd never served detention before nor after. My school skipping techniques were iron clad. Only got caught that time due to a sibling of the girl I brought with us. Took a chance on a weak link. A sexy weak link.
Hahahha, on the sub note....yeah, I was thinking, no way whe you said Huntington Beach, I would’ve went with Dana Point or take the trek to West L.a. to one of ours, but I’m biased...plus, proximity and all if you’re in the OC....
Ditching, haha, skills it takes, no doubt....damn kid foiled your plan that one time, rookies will do that to you, lol...I attended high school minutes away from Playa del Rey, Venice and Santa Monica, so I know the urge ....good times!
Oh man, Venice and Santa Monica were great back then. Shame about them now. Huntington was our go-to in the 80s. Hardly any family groups and lots of young people. Great waves for body surfing too. Never ran into trash in the water either, unlike Seal Beach, Balboa, Laguna, etc etc. I worshiped a lot of sun in those days, often in lieu of a day of school. Still managed to be an A/B student. Pretty lucky to have no skin issues considering how much time I spent tanning/burning.
shareNo. Closest I came were funerals for my paternal grandpa, and my dad's best friend. Grandpa's funeral was closed-casket. Our family friend had been an organ donor, so apparently his body had been made use of, and then cremated; so the only part of him that was at the funeral was a pretty wooden box full of ashes. I liked the painting on it, though. It showed a sun setting with a tree off to the side.
shareThat box sounds beautiful.
