Planet of the Apes

Like that movie?

Are the remakes as bad as I suspect they are? (really bad. and I'm not sure if there were more than one)

reply

There were several remakes and they were all pretty good

The original 68 film is the best of the lot but all the others were fairly entertaining imo

reply

I enjoyed the original 1968 version and rated it an 8/10. The 1970 sequel Beneath the Planet of the Apes was just alright, 6/10. I thought the 2001 Tim Burton remake was entertaining and better than it is given credit for. I rated it a 7/10. I really enjoyed the new Apes trilogy: Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) 8/10, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) 9/10, and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) 9/10.

Damn you all to hell!!!

I think that scene with the Statue of Liberty must be the most iconic anti-nuclear war image in a movie.

"you finally made a monkey out of meeeee"

reply

there's only one remake of the original and it was bad

reply

All the Apes movies are pretty awesome. Even the terrible one with Mark Hamburger.

reply

Uh, I think that starred Marky Mark Wallbanger...get it right dude!

I think the original is one of the very best SF movies ever made. It's also the only one in the entire franchise I like enough to own. The Burton remake is a disaster. I liked the more recent incarnation but, even though it was technically well made, I didn't really care that much about the characters.

reply

I borrowed the DVD of it from the local library several yrs ago and they put the still of the end of the movie on the menu screen. Spoiled the end of the movie.

reply

Hope someone got fired for that blunder.

reply

the ending of the movie is on the dvd cover of the copy i own (some deluxe edition from the late 2000s).

i think they just accept that everyone knows the ending.

reply

It was lampooned in like a hundred other movies.

reply

I love the sequel too. They went so weird with it, and it had such a bleak ending. They really leaned extra hard into the scifi element of it all.

reply

Yeah, the sequel to the first film was definitely interesting.
