Comedy movies that made you laugh your heart out

Hey peeps, I have been indulged in movie watching for the past few days because of the Virus-that -shall-not-be-named. You cant really do much inside your house you know. So, it is getting really sad watching all the upsetting news on the tv, so i have been trying to make my heart lighter.
I am into horror stuff but I cannot do it now XD. I read some articles like this one https://frogtok.com/top-10-best-comedy-movies-2020/, it lists some good movies but I thought, why not ask from the people directly.
Help me out guys

"My Cousin Vinnie" for starters! No matter how many times I watch it, I still laugh.

The same is true for, "This is Spinal Tap". I see something new or notice something different that strikes me funny every time I watch it.

"Galaxy Quest" is always good for laughs. It may be funnier to people like myself who were big Star Trek fans. We're familiar with the whole Sci-fi Convention scene, dressing up as aliens and nitpicking episodes to death mentality. I've only done the last one, (no Cons or costumes for me). But it's still enjoyable with great performances by the whole cast.

"Stand by Me" has some serious undertones, but the four young actors are superb and deliver a lot of funny dialogue.

"Tremors" always makes me laugh. Val and Earl are an unbeatable combination.

Going back further to the sixties, Mel Brooks, "The Producers" is a true comedy classic. The big "Springtime for Hitler" number had me rolling on the floor the first time I saw it.
And Zero Mostel's anguished yet hilarious, "I'm wearing a cardboard belt!" and "I want that money!" are priceless.

Well those are a few of my sure fire laugh getters. I wish you lots of laughs and hope you find something to enjoy.

- My Cousin Vinnie
- The Big Lebowski
- A Fish Called Wanda

BopBooCat- interesting coincidence that I just read your (very friendly) introduction yesterday and your concerns about posters who insult other fans love for certain movies. I said to myself that I wouldn't do that.

Then I read that you think the Monty Python movies are funny and my first thought is, 'What's wrong with this person?" LOLOL

Just messing with ya. It's just that I have found "Python" humor largely unfathomable. I never got it. But humor is SO subjective. For instance my mom loves all the National Lampoon movies with Chevy Chase. She laughs like crazy. To me they are about as funny as taking out the trash or mowing the lawn.

Well, didn't mean to scare you your first full day here! I do enjoy reading people's favorite comedies. When they agree with me, I think that they have a marvelous sense of humor. When they disagree, I just think they are wrong! ha ha

reply

I must say that I’ve never talked to a person that was on the fence about Monty Python. It either love or hate and I happen to love them too.

reply

I could never get into Monty Python neither although most people I knew love them. One major exception: Life of Brian. That movie was hysterically funny.

1972's "What's Up, Doc?"

A stellar cast (Barbra Streisand, Ryan O'Neal, Madeline Khan, etc) in a movie which will make you laugh from start to finish, no matter how many times you've watched it.

reply

I've never seen that one. But it reminded me of a very funny Streisand movie from 1974, "for Pete's Sake" with Michael Sarrazin. It was playing on HBO a few years later and my little sister watched it every time it was on.
I finally sat down and watched it with her. Very funny movie.

Also forgot to include "Annie Hall". Whenever I need sure fire, non stop laughs, I put that one in the DVD player.

reply

I always enjoyed 'For Pete's Sake' but it never came close to being as funny as 'WUD?'. You can tell they tried some of the same slapstick comedy, but came up short. Definitely watch 'WUD'.

By the way, Streisand teamed up with O'Neal again, 7 years later for 'The Main Event'. Not even close to the comedy in 'WUD', but the two still had chemistry which gave the audience a few chuckles.

Overboard - the original
Captain Ron

reply

I actually know Jamie Wild from Overboard. He is from Chicago. Partied with him in my high school years

reply

That had to be a fun movie to make for the kids.

reply

I remember people would yell, hey Jamie help I’m going overboard and he’d want to fight them. He was nothing like his character. Cool guy to polish off kegs with but never bring up overboard.

Team America: World Police
Tommy Boy
The South Park Movie
Blazing Saddles
The Other Guys
Anchorman
Old School
Superbad

All are very great fun if you have a silly sense of humor:)

reply

I forgot about Anchorman, that is another hilarious comedy. Can watch it over and over again. 60% of the time it works every time.

Sex Panther by Odeon
It's illegal in 9 countries so you know it's good
It's made from real bits of panther

The Room

reply

Possibly the most hilarious unintentional comedy of all time!

reply

Comedies like The Jerk, My Cousin Vinnie, Blazing Saddles, Caddyshack, Three Amigos, Coming to America, and Spaceballs are comedy classics. Side splitting comedies I’d have to give it to Half Baked, Old School, Scary Movie, Up in Smoke, and 40 Year Old Virgin.

reply

Excellent list
The Jerk certainly deserves a mention😃
