They dont want you wear a medical grade mask that will actually keep out covid , like front line workers wear.
They want you to wear any kind of crap across your face that will muffle the expulsion of air and restrict its , um , projectile distance. Thereby making everyone safer.
Thats why they are calling them face coverings rather than masks - to show u can just use a scarf.

They don't allow the natural "herd immunity" to develop. That's the way we've handled most of the pandemics in the past.
I personally think the lock downs cause more cases and deaths. And this opinion is shared by many doctors and scientists.

Because you can use things other than masks to cover your face, that's why! Bandanas, scarves, Halloween costumes, whatever.
My favorite was the guy who had an extra t-shirt handy, and had pulled the collar to just below his eyes, while the rest of the shirt puddled on his shoulders.
Also masks aren't necessarily useful... Batman masks, Robocop masks, Captain America masks, etc.
