I think people have vastly underestimated this possibility. The universe is random and full of quirks and happenstances, evolution on earth was a fluke. If anything exists out there I don’t think it’s highly probable it is anything like we or popular fiction have imagined it.

The universe is very large and very old , so surely that makes it more likely than unlikely?
The title of the post I responded to was asking whether it was possible that there was NO intelligent life out there. That's what I was responding to. IMO It's unlikely that there is no other intelligent life out there for those reasons.
shareIt is, but there's no way to know for sure, and many people (including myself) would be very sad if that was true.
I remember discussing finding real aliens with my dad, and I said that it was highly more likely that our descendants will colonize planets in other star systems that probably have alien animals and plants living on them. Basically, non-sentient life, but extraterrestrial life nonetheless.
Two very good "speculative" documentaries I watched involved visiting hypothetical planets with alien animal life. One was called "Alien Planet," and the other was called "The Blue Moon." Fascinating stuff, and both were made using what scientists know of how earth animals react and adapt to different environments, and applying it to hypothetical creatures of fascinating design.
I think there probably is but my pea brain can't fathom any technology capable of allowing travel across the vastness of space.
