It is, but there's no way to know for sure, and many people (including myself) would be very sad if that was true.
I remember discussing finding real aliens with my dad, and I said that it was highly more likely that our descendants will colonize planets in other star systems that probably have alien animals and plants living on them. Basically, non-sentient life, but extraterrestrial life nonetheless.
Two very good "speculative" documentaries I watched involved visiting hypothetical planets with alien animal life. One was called "Alien Planet," and the other was called "The Blue Moon." Fascinating stuff, and both were made using what scientists know of how earth animals react and adapt to different environments, and applying it to hypothetical creatures of fascinating design.
