I can’t stand people who respond to a text with a phone call

If I wanted to talk on the phone I would call you, I don’t so I texted. Why would you call? I absolutely hate talking on the phone, and it preoccupies you for the entire time you’re on it. I’d MUCH rather text intermittently so I can do other things. With a few minor exceptions there is almost never a good reason to physically talk on the phone.

My brother in law does this to me constantly, and our calls are never less than 15 minutes long and almost entirely small talk. This is fine once in a while, but he ONLY ever wants to communicate this way. I have a couple friends who are the same way, drives me nuts. Most recently this girl I’m talking to calls me multiple times a day, I never answer and always have to come up with some excuse as to why I can’t talk on the phone. She tries to FaceTime/video chat too on a regular basis. I’m going to have to just straight up tell her I’m not into it, it’s fucking irritating lol. I work and when I’m not working I don’t want my phone glued to my head. What is wrong with these idiots??!

Ya I hate that too

Agreed, I absolutely hate talking on the phone. Unless it's a close relative calling I generally avoid the phone at all costs.
The phone is such a disruption. Texting doesn't require you to immediately drop whatever you're doing.

reply

A lot of them just like to hear themselves talk and want an audience.

If it's something that is too much to type out, or too difficult to explain in text I will usually call, but I will warn with "I'm calling" text first. I will say that 97% of that is to my parents.

I don't like when people call you if they have nothing to say. This happens to me a lot; people call just to waste my time, but they have nothing that they need to convey. However, there are good reasons to call when someone texts - especially if something doesn't make sense and they need you to clarify something. That kind of call can take ten seconds. Also, going off your logic, they want to talk to you on the phone, so they called you.

You beat me to it. It'd be hilarious if the same people were posting on some other message board about the "idiot" who texts them when they hate texting and only want to talk on the phone, with a few minor exceptions. After all, if they wanted to text him, they would. But they call, so why would he text? 🤷‍♀️

Haha, great minds think alike. Yes, I can imagine them in some parallel universe, talking about that dude who hates calls. And hopefully, in that universe, our parallel selves are being awesome and giving advice just like this.

reply

That's very annoying but as sslssg stated once in a while the response is way to much to explain in a text

reply

you'll get over it as you mature...

^^^This^^^

People have become socially stunted and are afraid of actually having a conversation.

reply

I agree with you. I notice many of the younger people hired at my workplace can't properly socialize. They're not able to hold a conversation or are extremely shy.

LOL!😅 My granddaughter is one who can do “swipe”? texting and works where she’s not permitted to talk on the phone. If I need to contact her or vice-versa we do short texts, but if I need to have a lengthy confab with her I ask her to call me. There have been times when the text is becoming too long, so I say the hell with it and call the person. My husband doesn’t text, still uses a flip phone, but that’s OK as he’s always been a man of few words!

i have a flip

reply

Do you text? My husband only wants to make and receive calls.

reply

i do not text.
