I don't want to work.

I hate it, it gives me anxiety and I never had a job I enjoyed. It just makes me miserable.

The only reason I am even thinking of getting a job is because that's what's expected. But I don't think that's a good enough reason.

I'd rather live a stress free life and watch movies and series and play sports.

My only worry is what other people might think if I tell them I just don't care about working. Will I still be able to get a girlfriend? Will my parents be disappointed? Do people feel I am a leech? Because I collect social benefits? I would even understand it but I still don't care enough to work.

This work anxiety is been a part of my life since when I got my first job at a supermarket. And now 18 years later I am still dealing with it, I went to psychologists for 10 years and tried to figure out this anxiety for work but it hasn't helped. I have tried medication and it didn't help me. And I am just tired of trying and now I am just willing to accept that I will never work and I have decided to live my life the best way I can in my way without a job.

Sorry to hear that.

But fk it, just do what you want. Sure, a lot of people will look down on you for collecting social benefits, because there's this expectation that if you're gonna be miserable, you should be miserable alongside everyone else, doing the same shit. But that's not a rule, so you don't have to follow it. Also, you know what else people will judge you on? Everything else. If you work, they'll judge whether your job and income is as good as theirs, or if you even deserve it, or whether you do it well.

This is why I still recommend doing a basic arts degree, as much of a debt trap as it may be. It gives you a chance to float around and seek out different things that make you happy, because those things can potentially lead to making money. But if not money, at least more friends. But if staying at home gives you those same opportunities, to actively look into things that make you happy and stimulate you mentally, go for it. It's not forever.

No. People look down on selfish losers like this because they don't want to support them when they can support themselves.

so don't work

If you don't have to work, then don't work. Do you have all of your bills covered for the rest of your life? If not, then you need to work. By work, I mean have a form of income, whatever that is. Just don't be a leach.

Your right on board with a majority of the country.

Such a small percentage of people play for taxes that cover schools, roads, bridges. heath care.

You have a few people putting .money into the jar and a whole lot demanding they be given more.

That's why free health care can never work in American....more people would be using the service then contributing back.

Roads and bridges, more people use these then there are people who pay taxes for their maintenance. that is why Americans infrastructure is out of date.

I'm not a career guy. Never have been. I have worked in nonprofit most of my career, which has helped because you're fighting for a cause, but overall I generally don't care about work and having more and more problems doing it lately. If I can help someone, great. But like you said, I'd rather be living life. I went for a combination hike/bike outing the other day and it just felt like a pure dopamine boost. Stuff like that or becoming engrossed in a good story - be it a movie, tv show, video game, or whatever - is more important to me than working. Sitting in an office is just brutal for me. When the pandemic is over, I'm going to have to think about doing something else. I can't sit and stare at a screen anymore. Getting up and moving at least makes the day go quicker and takes your mind off being at work.

Don't tell your bosses or coworkers you don't care about working, that is a bad move. But if you are talking to friends and family and they have a problem with you simply not liking working, fuck them. You're allowed to not like it.

That being said, unless you are wealthy or have medically diagnosed crippling anxiety and approval from a doctor to collect disability, you HAVE TO work.
