I don't want to work.

I hate it, it gives me anxiety and I never had a job I enjoyed. It just makes me miserable.

The only reason I am even thinking of getting a job is because that's what's expected. But I don't think that's a good enough reason.

I'd rather live a stress free life and watch movies and series and play sports.

My only worry is what other people might think if I tell them I just don't care about working. Will I still be able to get a girlfriend? Will my parents be disappointed? Do people feel I am a leech? Because I collect social benefits? I would even understand it but I still don't care enough to work.

This work anxiety is been a part of my life since when I got my first job at a supermarket. And now 18 years later I am still dealing with it, I went to psychologists for 10 years and tried to figure out this anxiety for work but it hasn't helped. I have tried medication and it didn't help me. And I am just tired of trying and now I am just willing to accept that I will never work and I have decided to live my life the best way I can in my way without a job.

You can choose not to work, learn how to obtain state/federal disability benefits.

But don't expect a empathic shoulder to cry on. Millions of people get up early, go to job they would rather not have to, and bust their butt all day long.

Work is not supposed to be fun, that is why they call it work.

Answers to your questions, probably not, yes and yes.

"it gives me anxiety"

What does it make you anxious about?

reply

Social anxiety, fear of failure.

reply

So your answer is to BE a failure. Lame.

reply

You really are a fool. Read the OP's post again.

What did I miss, Copernicus?

reply

No, that actually IS what the OP is saying. He just wants to be a slacker, a.ka. a failure.

Two things:

1. Work out. Try as many different workouts as possible. Something will stick.

2. Do something PHYSICAL, not digital. Running, riding a bike, playing guitar, building things, golf, tennis etc. Get GOOOD at it. A lot of confidence comes from being good at something physical.

Work it.

do they have a good welfare system in the netherlands?

Feel for you Knish, hope you find some peace with your life path.

Just so you know, I don't judge you for your situation, not even in the slightest. Personally, I find saving goals to be a great incentive for dealing with the drama and anxiety that sometimes go with work. If it's a new car, a holiday to somewhere I've always wanted to visit, a gift for a loved one; it might sound trite but having those things to strive for makes work a lot easier to deal with.

Work to live, not live to work, that's my motto.

Thanks for sharing your story and best of luck again.

i can understand where you're coming from, having dealt with some similar issues myself.

honestly, i'd say the best thing is try to tough it out now, make as much money as you can, and save as much as you can.

if you save & invest, you'll hopefully be able to retire relatively young.

you may be miserable through your 30s + 40s (i'm assuming you're a younger guy - maybe i'm wrong), but you'll appreciate the freedom you've bought yourself if you can retire or semi-retire at a young age.

cuz it's likely the case that whatever issues you face now, you'll face them as an older person as well. you'll likely get better at managing them & navigating life, but you'll still have problems.

so be good to your future self and save money to send them and buy that guy his freedom.

reply

Everybody feels this way. 99% of people work because they have to earn a living, not because they like what they do.

And because they dont want to be thought of as leeches. Because yes, the only socially acceptable way for a capable young person to get away with not working is to either live off the grid in some self-sustaining way, or go marry someone who wants to pay your way. Because it's not okay to live off your parents or society because you dont like jobs, that means you're taking money from other people who don't like their jobs, but can't get out of working.

reply

^^^This exactly.^^^

If you are able bodied and just "don't want to work" and you leech off public assistance, you are a lowlife and a scumbag. The fact that you don't care, confirms it. I don't want to support losers like you who just "don't want to work".

reply

You don't want to support them? Well that's too bad, because you have to do it anyways.

Remember, death and taxes, amigo!

reply

Oh, I know that but I do it begrudgingly and will shame them, whenever possible.

reply

Me either but sitting on my own dick and feeling sorry for myself doesn’t keep me fed.
