Ever been kicked out of something?
A club, school, or other thing you were a part of and then expelled? What was it and why?
shareA club, school, or other thing you were a part of and then expelled? What was it and why?
shareI was banned from Quora for criticizing the State of Israel.
shareThat only would make me criticize them 100x more...
Some think its worse than murder... But as someone (doesn't matter who said, paraphrasing) said.. if you want to find who controls over you, find the group you can't criticize.
Quora as well as reddit and other sites are full of rabbi mods.
shareThey can't have banned you just for criticising Israel. It must have been something else you said. That sucks.
shareYep. I was cruelly banned from a Harry Potter message board once, since I didn't agree with a moderator politically.
That was terrible.
I was kicked off a message board for the same reason. Moderator didn't agree with my political opinion so they silenced me.
shareThat's a comfort, that I'm not alone. :)
shareIt was a huge deal to me. Not saying I wasn't a bit of a jerk, but the punishment did not fit the crime. I had my voice taken away and my place in a community revoked for speaking my mind. Living in a country where I have freedom of speech, this rocked my world. I hate using the word, but it wasn't fair. It really affected my self esteem at the time. I've since had way more major things happen to me in the real world, so it doesn't seem that significant in retrospect, but at the time, the board was everything to me.
shareYikes! I think I could have written that myself, nearly verbatim!
I guess I said a thing or two, that I shouldn't have said. But this guy just publicly gloated about having the power to ban me from the forum. And it was clear that he did that with the uttermost pleasure. And yeah, that hurt and partly contributed to me having a mental collapse a few months later. And even though this was in the fall of 2004, it hurts to think about it even now.
And when I later sent a very angry e-mail to them, the reply was basically "if you being banned from a message board is the worst thing to ever happen to you, you live a very good life". Because obviously, they knew all about me and my mental health! Yeah, I guess I was better off without all those assholes. And I started to join other message boards with nicer members instead. But still, it hurt at the time.
The whole betrayal aspect of your story really struck home with me as well. I learned not to trust anybody online, even if they seem like a friend. You can never really know somebody unless you know them in person, and even then, be wary. The lesson learned shouldn't be: trust no one ever, but tread lightly. Power tripping mods, who seemed to live to exert power over others' online lives, really do live a pretty sad life if that's the biggest jazz they can get, or even conceive of. Whenever things seem like they're spiraling out of control I repeat the mantra, to quote Labyrinth, "you have no power over me." Nobody's gonna Goblin King me ever again.
shareI'm guess that you are American, but I just wanted to point out that freedom of speech in most countries that have it only protect you from the government, not privately owned or run businesses. Sites on the internet still have an owner, so you do not have "free speech". When you sign up for an account you agree to terms and conditions. Have you read the terms for this site? I would bet 99% of users here have not. If you break any of the terms you can be banned.
shareCasino.
I went nuts after I lost plenty money in one evening.
They didn't actually throw me out,but next time I try to play roulette security told me that don't come anymore.
I guess is fair. I usually don't go nuts in casinos, that one is exception. It happens.
Yeah, emotions can run high in gaming establishments. I've been super pissed a time or 2 at the blackjack tables, but usually manage to keep my external cool.
shareYeah. Losing your shit in a casino in Vegas would probably get you thrown out on your ear AND arrested lol.
Yours seems alot more forgiving. You should try to get back in there.
No way. It's casino with live roulettes,blackjacks...
So,once when you kicked out,you can't possible come in again.Maybe with new identity
Banned from IMDb2 because I wasn't willing to support a moderator's political agenda.
shareI was kicked off the school-bus in middle school permanently for talking back to the bus driver (for a span of months) who was a complete bitch. But, I do remember her playing my cassette tapes of The Doors, etc., early on. I can't remember why we'd constantly argue back and forth.
The next day, my entire street (nine guys) walked all the way home with me. As it started to bring attention, a few days later, the Vice-Principal demanded everyone else bringing a note from home, giving permission. Everyone did, and then being flustered, the VP gave us ALL a ride in his Starcraft Van.... He actually once gave me a pass after I beat the hell out of one of those kids after getting off the bus just months earlier because my friend said he deserved those punches to the face. Later that day when his wife saw me enter her Family Living class, she asked why I was there, and all that, and I said "I had no reason to be punished", and a short while later, I heard my name being called. He said, "You were punished" (but I wasn't - not even after-school detention), and just let me go. Back then, anything resembling a fight was automatic suspension.
Something similar happened to my brother once, but he was totally innocent. Some other boy was dumb enough to throw a rock inside a bus. The driver then proclaimed that he would never take him nor my brother (whom he saw as guilty by association somehow) as a passenger again. After that, my brother was forced to get onto a different bus, which stopped a freaking two miles from where we lived, so he would still have to walk a third of the long way home, if he saw that this particular driver was on school bus duty.
shareSpeaking of other message boards, I just got a warning for "hate speech" after saying
"Nowadays, most of the attention for a movie has nothing to do with the merits of the film itself, but there are none. But if you tweet something 'controversial', pick a fight with the President, or advertise 'The First Tranny Director'"......
TRANNY? Hate speech? Where was the hate? I know they don't believe it, either. Fuck people. THIS is the reason for COVID-19 :)
Nature is sick of our ways. We take, but we're not given anything back.
I try to keep my posts as PC as I can stand, but the level of intolerance for even borderline speech is rather annoying.
shareBasically I don't want to be booted again. If I have to tone down my intensity, I guess I'll do it to be a part of something. I need whatever contact I can get.
shareI know what you mean, but lately, I figure if I can't speak my mind, what's the point of a message board and communication in general. Being sincere is enough.
Now if someone is around just to start shit, that's another story.
That can be a problem, and it really hurts to get called out for being that when you're not. They're on such a high alert for douchery that people with mildly objectionable viewpoints get sent to cold storage unjustly.
sharePreach.
shareOh my, it is just like when I started a thread on a forum about that the swastika not always was a symbol of evil. Then a moderator reprimanded me and called my thread "clearly racist", even though I had not discussed any race.
I decided to leave that forum in disgust.
Don't joke about the Covid-19 though. That crap has given me the chills for weeks now. And we don't know who will get sick and who will survive it.
Pretty sure he wasn’t joking. He’s 100% right. Humans have been taking from this planet like we’re the only species that matters. We leave nothing but destruction. Nature was always going to fight back. Pandemics make a pretty good defense.
shareA few bars when I was ALOT younger. Usually for fighting but allowed back in because I was normally sticking up for someone.
Now I let them take care of themselves.
Mostly.
No contest.
