I don't mean because their performances were so good. I'm talking about movies where you cheer for the people doing criminal activities.

I dunno. I guess he looked cool. It's a shallow reason, but a reason nonetheless.

I guess he also made an attempt to be existential by asking "why" the protagonists were fighting back.

Norma and Norman Bates--Bates Motel.
Ok, not technically a movie but it's based off of "Psycho," which is a movie. Does that count?

Back in 1984 when I saw Dune at the theater I was so tired watching the movie that I was rooting for Sting’s character to kill Kyle MacLachlan‘s character. :-)

It was the movie. I think the part that wore me down were the characters speaking telepathically.

Most Guy Richie movies but to be honest most of the characters are varying shades of 'bad guys'

The clever thing Guy does is make the least despicable people the protagonists

The Talented Mr. Ripley

Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays such a great jerk that you root for and feel empathetic to Damon's character.

I was rooting for Nicole Kidman's character.
