Was/is 'director's commentary' of interest to you on movies?

It's sort of a dying thing I guess given the move away from DVDs to streaming, but director's commentary was kind of interesting in the 2000s.

Now it's rare for me to even want to listen.

What about you? Worth it? Still do it?

reply

The only commentary I listened to is Time After Time (1979) because I was curious about the time travel logic in the movie. I learned the time machine was not at all important to the plot but I also learned interesting details about movie production.

reply

It's usually the first special feature I look for.

reply

The fight club one is fun and the brown bunny commentary is hilarious.

reply

Nope

reply

I watch the featurettes only.

reply

Some of my fondest memories are of watching my favourite dvds with commentary, to this day i regret selling all my dvds, there was like 1500 of them, i sold em for 500 bucks.

reply

Were you moving? I’ve kept mine. I like the tangible aspect.

reply

Nah i wasnt moving but "family" in the house thought they were an eyesore. And truth is you dont know what you got till its gone.

MY HOME COLLECTION IS WITHIN A BREATH OF 20,000 TITLES(VHS/DVD/BLU RAY)...HAVE TO DEFEAT ME IN BATTLE AND FINISH ME OFF IF YOU WANNA GET AT MY FLICKS.

reply

What, no betamax?

reply

I HAVE 4 BETAS,11 LASERDISCS ,5 PSPS,AND A HANDFUL OF CEDS,I DONT WATCH THEM THOUGH..THEY ARE JUST REPRESENTATIONS OF THE FORMAT FOR THE COLLECTION.

reply

psps and ceds are unfamiliar to me.

reply

PSPS ARE TINY DISCS THAT WENT INTO THE PLAYSTATION MOVIE PLAYERS..CEDS LOOKS LIKE OLD COMPUTER HARD DISKS,ONLY LASERDISC SIZED.

reply

cool, do you have the hardware to play them?

reply

NOPE...I JUST ENJOY HAVING THE LOST FORMATS REPRESENTED IN MY COLLECTION.

reply

Always. For those who make stuff, it's very educational.

reply

Depends on the movie, but if I'm really interested in it, I will watch all the commentaries.

reply

This is my approach as well. They are insightful.
