Was/is 'director's commentary' of interest to you on movies?

It's sort of a dying thing I guess given the move away from DVDs to streaming, but director's commentary was kind of interesting in the 2000s.

Now it's rare for me to even want to listen.

What about you? Worth it? Still do it?

For sure, almost always very interesting! But people like me who make films probably constitute the highest percentage of those who would be interested.

Sometimes they're amusing in unexpected ways. Here's one of my favorite commentaries ever: Jack-O (1995), a godawful b-horror flick about an evil pumpkin headed slasher. The producer and director, neither of whom have hung out or watched the film in quite some time, increasingly clash over the course of the movie. The director ostensibly has sour grapes over the production and is secretly proud of his shitty movie, and the producer secretly thinks it's the biggest joke ever. He can't help himself but to poke joking jabs at the director that tear more and more skin, until they're actually yelling and fighting with each other. If I recall correctly the director storms out of the room at one point for a while. LMAO:

I like the commentary on The Thing (1982) by Carpenter and Kurt Russell. Sly's is good as well on First Blood (1982)

The best for me is on Platoon (1986) You've got 1 by Oliver Stone and the better one by Captain Dale Dye as the 2nd option. I still go back and listen to all the above from time to time.

When I first started buying laser disks I listened to them, but I began to notice that most of them were just people sitting around saying "you're a genius!", "no, you're a genius!", so I lost interest and I don't listen to them anymore.
