What's your favourite film studio's opening logo?

I've always loved Universal Pictures. A nice shot of the world as it's moving back while "Universal" slowly creeps out from behind forming a nice symmetrical logo.

reply

NOT MY FAVORITE STUDIOS,BUT TRISTAR'S LOGO WITH THE PEGASUS AND ORION WITH THEIR STARFIELD.

reply

I haven't seen much TriStar in the last little while. The same with Touchstone.

reply

This is my current favorite. The logo is not all that impressive but if you see it there’s usually some gangster stuff coming up. 😎

reply

I liked the old World on the Universal logo better. Now it's too colourful. I liked the Jurassic Park era best.

reply

Damn I’m sorry!!! I forgot to provide the link. I may have misled you. Sorry.

Oh, I though you were agreeing with my pick.

Anyhoo, I've never heard of that studio.

Never heard of Thorn, but that is a mighty fine logo. Very pleasant animation.

reply

The one with the roaring lion.

reply

MGM. Nice intro but they make a lot of mediocre movies.

reply

Well, to be fair every studio makes a lot of mediocre movies.

reply

That is quite fair👍

Not a film studio logo, but perhaps the most epic vanity bumper of all time was the 80s HBO movie motion controlled model city flyover:

I had this on my notepad from doing a lot of research on vanity cards a couple years ago... Had a bunch more cool foreign ones on a list somewhere that I can't find right now... I'll see if I can track them down later, as if this isn't overkill already.

reply

A few things:

I didn't know Screen Gems existed in the 60s.

I haven't seen many Full Moon movies, bit that's a nice one.

The song used in the very first link is also used in New Line Cinema's logos.

reply

Screen Gems started out as an animation studio in the 20s! They did some really great cartoons that don't get enough attention today imo. I've been planning on doing a SG animation post at some point here. Always thought it was so fun that they went from being like proto Disney to a horror studio. Two of my favorite things.

Full Moon are one of the world's finest purveyors of mindbendingly ridiculous trash and I love it.

reply

FULL MOON. YES!..EVEN BETTER THAN THEIR LOGO IS THAT AD FOR FULLMOON.COM THEY PUT BEFORE ALL THEIR SHIT BACK IN THE DAY.

reply

Tried to pull it up, couldn't find it, but found this instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPxSfAukaLA

They're so awesome.

This also reminds me that I love the Lloyd Kaufman intros to Troma releases. I just love Lloyd Kaufman.

reply

VERY COOL...LLOYD KAUFMAN,WOW!..I READ HIS BOOK.TROMA AND FULL MOON...A HUGE CHUNK OF MY TEENAGE YEARS WERE SPENT SEEKING THOSE STUDIOS WORK OUT AND ENJOYING IT.

reply

Of course I remember screen gems and this one too

reply

I like the classic ones like 20th Century Fox, Columbia, Tristar and Paramount (Universal en Warner Bros. could be better, to be honest). The current Disney one is pretty, but a bit over the top.

reply

Shhh, the movie is about to start!

reply

As a kid, I liked "Columbia pictures" The lady with the torch. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbia_Pictures

It started Three Stooges shorts!
