I'm 40 hours into my 72 hour fast

Feeling light headed now. Just going to stay in bed and watch movies.

Why am I doing this? Your body starts to regenerate cells after 48 hours. Inflammation goes down. Immune system strengthens. Brain cells grow and repair. It's the closest thing we can do to drinking from a fountain of youth.

I'm curious to see if it will help with my inflammation of my left eye (due to shingles in 2015) and my tinnitus.

I'm not sure a 72 hour fast is safe or sensible... but good luck with it.

reply

It’s safe if you’re not driving. You won’t die. Lots of water and some with sea salt to keep up electrolytes.

reply

Well that's good that you are keeping yourself hydrated.

I think I would die. Then again, I'm the type who feels like he's dying of hunger when he misses breakfast, so I'm not a great yardstick. Look forward to seeing how you go with it.

reply

I’m a light eater anyway. Not big on snacking. Others would surely die as their body reacts to the absence of sugars and flavour hits. Doctors recommend preparing a week ahead, smaller meals, less snacking. Let the body ease into it.

reply

Ever throw in a cup of bone broth?

reply

what food are you thinking about?

reply

A nice steak.

reply

I would be craving something sweet after 48 hours.

reply

Ridiculous. Not eating food for such a long time isn't good for you in any way. Lightheadedness? Yeah, NOT a good sign.

reply

It actually is very good. Your body starts doing amazing things to regenerate. Think about it, our ancestors didn’t eat every day. They went days between feeds. The body takes the opportunity to stop just processing food to processing fat for energy, it regenerated damaged cells, it repairs the brain, the immune system strengthens, inflammation does down.

Yeah, I’m a little light headed, but that’s the cost. I’m not even that hungry between meal times.

reply

The human body evolves. And no, our ancestors did not go days without eating anything at all, unless they were starving. In that case they simply survived instead of getting stronger and more healthy. You're delusional. Lightheadedness is a sign something's wrong.

reply

It’s new science.

reply

About MICE, yes. Do some research before doing something risky to your body, for god's sake.🙄

reply

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't "our ancestors" have a shorter lifespan?

reply

Barely. Their life span was not very different from ours.

reply

" Think about it, our ancestors didn’t eat every day. They went days between feeds."
Yeah well who'se to say that did them any good?

They also hunted bears with sticks, have you tried that?
maybe that was what made them amazing.

wait a minute, who said they did anything other than live short doomed lives ...(like sunny said)

reply

Fasting for 24 hours, fair enough. Fasting for 72 hours, ridiculous!

reply

Good luck -- but you don't usually start with a 72 hr fast -- and be careful how you break it.

reply

Let us know. I got tinnitus and if that helps, consider me going on a fast.

reply

I feel like it has already. Just a little softer.

reply

My tinnitus is from noise exposure. Is fasting supposed to help that kind?

reply

It does apparently. Here are others talking about it.

I feel like my ears have calmed down already.

From your link:

"The 5:2 diet is a great example of intermittent fasting. One example of this is fasting for 24 hours on 2 non consecutive days per week, i.e. dinner to dinner the next day, and on that next day only eating 500 calories. On the 5 other days of the week, eat normally."

That's very different to a 72-hour total fast.

reply

From 48 hours onwards your body grows new stem cells. So I'm hoping this will help my tinnitus. I just hit 50 hours

reply

Hell , ive done that by accident , through a combination of laziness and intoxication.

reply

Have you found your hearing getting worse over the years, Mr. Mojo? I ask because you say it's from noise exposure and I believe I got mine the same way. I've had mine for 10 years and haven't noticed a significant difference.

reply

Mine seems to have stayed the same.

reply

That's good.

reply

I’m glad to hear your has not become worse either. Might be good news for us. :) mine is only one ear. Is yours both?

reply

Left ear mostly. Sometimes I get it in the right ear when the left one gets really loud.

reply

Good luck!
