I finally chose Like Water for Chocolate. 1992 Probably one of the few foreign films I've watched multiple times. Such a great film.

Being Dutch, am I allowed to go for a Dutch film or do I have to go with another language except for English?

reply

Thats an interesting question. I think you have to choose outside your country.

reply

I regard every film produced in English speaking countries as being not foreign. So British, Irish, American, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand productions are all "domestic" films to me.

reply

Wait if you don't live in the Netherlands and your just of Dutch descent your fine to pick Dutch. Thats like me saying I can't pick an Irish film because my dad was Irish but I don't live in Ireland. Wow confusing.

reply

she's a 100% Dutch

reply

Well than Dutch is not a foreign film to her and I'd say she can't choose that country.

reply

But I can't pick an English language film either?

reply

I think if your that close to the country of origin its not really a foreign film to you, so that wouldn't work. Say for Uk guys they couldn't pick Trainspotting, but I could.

reply

Well, I live FAR away from the US, so I could pick an American movie. In that case I think I'll go with Beauty and the Beast (1991).

For a non-English language movie I pick the Indian movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (hownos will love me for this!😁)

reply

I think thats valid. To you US is a foreign country.

reply

Its helps if you go through your Imdb 10 ratings. It reminded me of movies I hadn't thought about for a long time.

reply

No Canadian films for you:)

reply
