What are your favourites? I think it's one of the best decades for comedy, here are my picks:

1. This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
2. National Lampoon's Vacation (1983)
3. A Fish Called Wanda (1988)
4. Crocodile Dundee (1986)
5. Uncle Buck (1989)
6. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)
7. Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982)
8. 9 to 5 (1981)
9. Midnight Run (1988)
10. Back to the Future (1985)

11. Trading Places (1983) - Dan Akroyd and Eddie Murphy

reply

That is one of my all-time favorites. Maybe even No. 1

reply

I just watched it a couple days ago. As funny as the first time.

reply

I've never seen it! I'll have to check it out.

reply

Oh man. Great movie. You will not regret it, I promise. Another one I think is awesome - Office Space starring Ron Livingston.
It doesn't qualify for this thread (1999), but still shit your pants funny. It co-stars Jennifer Aniston. Might be her first movie.

reply

Dang ole Mike Judge, man.

reply

Definitely well done on his part!

reply

Leprechaun is JA's first movie.

reply

I haven't seen any of those. I figure if I want to be scared I'll watch the news ;(

reply

Romancing the Stone

reply

Love that movie. Kathleen Turner is real woman.

(That's a definite complement - for the SJWs out there)
(Sad that I feel the need to include that - the world is going to shit)

reply

Mate, you didn't have to add it! "Kathleen Turner is a real woman" is a factual statement that you don't have to explain. If anyone objects to that, they're not an SJW, they're just an idiot.

Great pick once again Laura!

reply

Yeah I know. She's fantastic. But I figured at least 50/50 some PC punk (I wanted to put something else here - see how insidious this crap is?) would bitch about it.
Ah well it's done.

reply

I'm an sjw, nothing wrong here.

reply

Awesome! Color me vindicated. Or something.
The pain meds been kicking my ass for a bit.

reply

Airplane! 1980

reply

Don't call me Shirley...

That movie was released as 'Flying High' in Australia.

reply

Back to the Future? comedy?

reply

Of course! What would you call it... drama?

reply

sci fi great movie it's not really a comedy Like Trains Planes and Automobiles aims to be

reply

Yeah, ok, definitely has those elements.

reply

no sorry, I was rude sorry

reply

Were you? I didn't notice. All good man, no need to apologize :)

reply

You bet. Sure it's SF, too, but still a comedy.

reply

I just thought Comedies try to have a certain level of comedy but would you put it in Sci fi Comedy like The Man with Two Brains or Sci Fi Action

reply

Movies (books, tv series etc) don't have to be shoehorned into a specific genre. How would you classify Army of the Dead?

reply

Army of Darkness?

reply

My bad. Army of Darkness.
Long day. Pinkeye and shit.

reply

I would count Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness because of how slapstick it is

reply

Still scary, tho. They've got all the elements, yes?

reply

Scary?
ok does Die Hard or Lethal Weapon count as a Comedy?

reply

Can you deny that some of it is funny? C'mon I'm just pointing out the obvious here. If you're trying to find an argument I'm just gonna go.
My eye hurts anyway.

reply

lol

Arthur (1981)
Fletch (1985)
Caddyshack (1980)
History of the World: Part I (1981)
The Gods Must Be Crazy (1980)
Easy Money (1983)

The Naked Gun 1988

reply

My favorite scene is Nordberg is in the hospital and Frank figures out he’s trying to tell him the name of the ship is “I love you” and he’s tells Ed “I realize that... now.”

The Naked Gun is definitely my favorite comedy of all time and part 2 and 3 are great too.

I love in the 2nd one when Frank delivers his environmental police captain speech to the crowd and he says “I want a world where I can eat a baby sea otter and not get sick!”

In my retirement years I want to be Leslie Nielsen.
