Do you ever forget how old you are?

Today I was at the doctor and the secretary was asking me a bunch of questions. Then when she asked me how old I was, I said : "37. No, 38. Wait, 37." She snickered and I felt like such an idiot. I honestly wasn't even sure.

i'm coming up on a 'milestone' age, & i'm very very conscious of my age at the moment, but for those 'non-event' years, i actually do often forget. numbers just run together, i find.

reply

Maybe when I'm 39 I'll feel that way.

reply

Oh hell yeah. I had to count on my fingers once like a maroon. Literally not something I think about. I don't celebrate birthdays or anything, it just doesn't come up. And the older you get, like 5 years will feel like one year. Time gets real wonky.

reply

I've had to do the finger dance too. But you gotta do it strategically so no one looks.

reply

Frequently
I was recently reminded that I'm a year younger than I always claim...that felt like a win!

reply

Other people are reminding you? I came even remember what I had for lunch.

reply

I always know my age.
What I don't know is how people think of me at my age.
Sometimes I see attractive young people among the polyglot of humanity and would like to talk to them, much as I like to talk to anyone who looks receptive to having social conversation.
Yet, I get the feeling young people don't understand why I might want to speak with them like we are peers, like I'm some old guy who doesn't have a clue. A pretty accurate assessment from their perspective but I'd still like to talk without the stigma of being "an old guy."

reply

For young people, they think anybody above 30 is old.

reply

No, but I'd like to.

reply

You wait til you reach your 40's. It's all just a blur

reply

Yes, I totally did a few years ago. I did a Phoebe Buffet for almost a year.
