Would you watch a movie about the 9/11 attacks told from the perspective of the terrorists?

Based on this book in particular:

Perfect Soldiers: The 9/11 Hijackers: Who They Were, Why They Did It

reply

No.

Hold your friends close and your enemies closer.

reply

I would not

reply

Probably not. Maybe, though.

reply

I would. It's an interesting perspective and allows us to better understand why they did it. Seems kinda "snowflake"-like to not want to hear from the other side.

reply

Sort of like Letters From Iwo Jima?

reply

As long as it doesn't try to justify it, I'd hear a different perspective.

reply

Why? What's wrong with the movies trying to justify it?

reply

Oh, please tell me why they did it. I need to hear both sides. Good Grief! Call me “snowflake” if you will, but I don’t need the Kumbaya attitude “to better understand why they did it”. There’s no need “to hear from the other side.” There’s absolutely *no* justification for the heinous act so why wring our hands trying to understand? I hope they’re enjoying their 72 virgins in hell!

reply

there might be" no justification" , but theres still a "why they did it"...

reply

Well, I don't know, Eric. I would have thought it's a bit "snowflake-ish" to want to "hear the other side". I mean, nothing that you'd learn would change anybody's mind, would it? It won't make the perps feel more "understood", because they're dead. And it won't make the victim's families feel better, because nothing they'd learn about the terrorists would do that.

Sounds like the only people who are actually interested in this are the worst kind of snowflakes.

reply

I'm just saying if we hear from the other side, maybe we can prevent another future tragedy from happening.

reply

I watched a movie that showed the planning of the holocaust from the perspective of some of the German elite, Conspiracy (2001). I'm part Jewish, and surely some distant relatives of mine died from it. Excellent movie (fantastic cast w/ Kenneth Branagh as Reinhard Heydrich, the Butcher of Prague). But I don't like watching anything related to 9/11, even from our perspective.

reply

did you watch United 93 or Zero Dark Thirty?

reply

No.

reply

Zero Dark Thirty is very well done.

reply

Yep

reply

I think I'd prefer a documentary. I know it shouldn't be about them, but I do find it interesting to see how and what brought about this horrendous act. I have tried to look up their backgrounds to see where it went wrong for these privileged guys.

reply

Good reply.

reply

you should read the book I mentioned above.
