Movies about being stranded in the ocean?
One of my biggest fears is being stranded in the middle of the ocean with God knows what below you.
I am familiar with the Open Water movies though Ive yet to see them. Any others?

I remember in the early 80s watching a TV movie called “Goliath Awaits”

Dead Calm was excellent.
I saw Open Water on TV several summers ago when they like to run all the scary "Jaws" type movies to frighten summer beach goers. It seemed totally ridiculous to me until I found out that it was based on a true story that happened to an American couple who were vacationing in Australia. They were never found.
The late comedian Ralphie May does a hilarious take on the film. He describes seeing the coming attractions. He had me laughing so hard that I was crying.
I have a great fear of deep water, so these movies scare me more than haunted house movies. I'd never go on a cruise ship.
I liked The Life of Pi. Excellent film.

Years ago, I was a Navy diver. Our ship had stopped in the middle of the Pacific -- can't remember why -- and I decided to get my quarterly hours in with a dive under the ship. It can be unnerving to be under a floating ship. You have this monstrously large thing OVER you in the water and you're convinced that it's going to crush you.
Anyway, at one point I stopped and glanced down at the depths below me. The deep blue receded into darkness far below me. I started to contemplate the depth of water below me. I knew the bottom was maybe a mile or more beneath me.
I have a fear of heights and suddenly my fear of heights kicked in. For some reasons I thought I was going to slowly sink into those depths. I would look up to see the fading light above me until I was surrounded by total darkness and I would never know when I was going to hit the bottom.
I had a full-blown panic attack and I had to surface immediately. It was the weirdest thing. I do all sorts of ocean sports now, I've dived and snorkeled sporadically since leaving the Navy and it has never happened to me again.
